Hay dewdz ,
Are there any known problems with the 1979 924? I am considering buying a 1979 924 however I am not familiar with these vehicles. Also, are parts expensive and/or hard to find?

Thanks for the response chums

Well... tell us about the car. How many miles? How much are you paying for it?

Does it run well, idle smooth, and shift well? If the answer to any of those last three are no, then prepare to spend some $$$.

The '79 is probably one of the least expensive to work on of the whole 924 series... but remember it is still a Porsche. If it is in good shape, and hasn't been sitting for too long, prepare to do a really good general maintenance that would include: oil change, new filters, belts, hoses, etc. Have a good tune-up done also. Probably in the neighboorhood of $200-$300, which is cheap insurance.

Known probs: probably the most common problem in an original engine car is various components of the CIS breaking down. The WUR and cold start system are notorius for causing cold and hot start difficulty. Read the faq on the 924.org home site for LOTS of info on common problems.

Parts aren't hard to find for this car.....I ran one for a few years and outside of just the usual maintenence it is a good value....you can find lots of parts on Ebay and even some local salvage yards.....I replace starter, alternator, water pump, belts, filters, wires and plugs, and lots of other things and it was not expensive at all.....of course don't buy many parts from the dealer....they will soak you good.....the 79 is Definetly an easy car to repair and maintain.....besides it is very fun to drive and it turns heads.....

Known problems; that's funny.

1) Water leaks in from under battery due to acid corrosion.
2) Speedo breaks.
3) Electrical gremlins due to dirty ground connections.
4) Bad synchros in tranny, hard to shift.
5) Hatchback glass loose in metal frame.
6) Fuel injection problems (hot start cold start no start).
7) Worn out cam shafts and followers.
Cracked dashboards and split seams on seats.
9) Loose shift linkage.
10) Sunroof leaks.
11) Hard to remove sparkplugs (now I'm getting petty).
12) Underpowered compared to the Turbo Beetle (or any other car except
a Kia.
Did I miss any?
