|
|
What, if anything, have some of you done to get the right distance between the brake and throttle to maximize your heel-and-toe?
The brake pedal on my '76 is so close to the throttle that I blasted through the cones at the entrance to the infield section at Charlotte Motor Speedway last week because I had my foot on the brake and throttle at the same time during my downshift
Best,

I have fairly large feet {large body too I guess} I own only one set of footware that I can use to drive my car. They are a pair of sneakers I used for mowing the lawn. They are 5 years old and look like hell and are as tight as hell in a dress. I am going to buy a pair of racing shoes when I get the car back on the road. I am out of options. |

I run an extra-wide accel pedal, but have racing shoes of course. Have no issues heel-n-toeing... _________________ Vaughan Scott

I guess in emergencies it's better to get on the throttle instead of the brakes, eh racerboy? You may wreck your car and injure hundreds of people possibly killing dozens of them and probably yourself too. But you know what you just may gain a few tenths on the leaders or even gain a position. And that's what it's all about. Or at least that's the way I see it on my way to and from work everyday! |

Get a pair of racing shoes. Their the best. Racer wholesaler sells them for about $60.

Jeremy, thanks for the suggestion, however, I have racing shoes. The problem is that (at least in the '76 version) the pedals are extremely close together. In my 968, I'm used to catching the brake with my big toe and the upper right portion of the ball of my foot. This gives me ample extension to blip the throtte with the right side of my right foot. Unfortunately with the 924, if I have any portion of my foot to the right of the brake, I engage the throttle at the same time. There is no need to roll my foot to the right I'm taking her in to the welding shop in a few days to try and sort this out. Maybe we can heat the metal and bend it, maybe the best solution is going to be exactly what Lizard suggested, cut off their heads and weld them back
BTW, while we are at this, (and I have checked the Haynes) can the brake pedal be manually adjusted outward ( toward the driver)? That could give me a little extra room too. If not, we can always weld an extension on the pedal when we move it to the left.
Thanks guys for your help. I, along with my friends Jesse and Lawrence are headed off to NASA comp school later this month at CMP in Kershaw, SC. Hope to catch up with many of you in the 944 Cup next year (literally and figuratively ).
Best,

Yes, the brake pedal can be adjusted, on the rod that goes into the booster. Loosen locknut and rotate rod.
Are you using the stock gas pedal? Skinny plastic pedal? Doesn't sound like it... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Man, you got big feets! j/k
I am kinda wondering now if perhaps your brake pedal is already bent? I ought to take some measurements to compare across my fleet. I have a wider aftermarket (actually, homemade) gas pedal to assist me for heel-n-toe. I would (on casual thought) expect the pedals to be similar to your 968. I take it they are not?
I could also compare with my neighbor's 951, which should be very similar to your 968... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Yeah!!! Size 13! But my feet >are< narrow. Every other 924 I've been in is set up more like my 968. [/u] _________________ '92 968 Coupe, Black/Tan

| 13 is nothing, try 16. only some shoes will FIT between the gas and brake. I am thinking about trimming and relocating the brake clutch pedal over to the left more. |
