The stuff is made by none other than ... POR-15... ( http://www.por15.com/faq.asp )

While installing my new hood shocks this weekend, I remembered this and other similar threads about rusting out battery boxes. And since taking the battery out really would make the strut installation a lot easier, I decided to "poke around" in the old battered box to see how it has been faring over all these years.

YIKES

(click photo for gruesome details)

Looks like I'm going to get some real practice with my new MIG welder sometime pretty soon. Who's got the best method/plan of cutting out the old metal, fabbing up a replacement and installing it?

I had they same problem. It started in the corner of the battery compartment, went inside the passenger side. And got soaked up behind the angled wedge. A real upsetting mess when it rained. Made me feel terrible.Puddles were sometimes 1/2 inch deep and I would bucket it out with a cup..
But- I said "had this problem".
Today while on the job, fiberglass guys were doing a shower pan for me. After scraping all the crap down to the metal like a mad man they gave me a quick coat. Cost me $11.00 and some water. SWEEEEET.
Sorry, But this is something you guys would appreciate. My wife just looks at me strange because I was too happy about it.

cmxxi just cut the rusted weak metal out and then find a piece of metal the same thickness or thicker look at places like home depot or lowes they might sell sheet metal then cut a piece that overlaps and tache it on then weld around it.wire feed would be simply wonderful her...

Dont put the battery back there augi..they make firewall battery cable
panel connectors only 9.95 put the battery in the inside in a box somewhere unless youve welded it up.
