Any wing at all? How 'bout Applebit's? I don't consider it ricey at all. But if I go to anything that looks like an F1 wing even if it's small it will be rice?
No winged things at all? |

no an F1 wing is rice unless on a tomplete track car, applebits looks good and isn't ricey, also the 944 spoiler isn't nor the 968, but F1 style with aluminum cross holders ARE ricey _________________ 3 928s, |

Rice wings have no useful function and are usually large and flashy. Putting a small wing on the back can make a car look a little better. all depends on the actual wing and car. _________________ 90 944 S2

I only add a wing for added downforce, and slight looks, _________________ 3 928s, |

Well, everyone has a slightly different definition of rice. Some people believe any mods you make to a Honda count as rice. Others believe that any exterior modifications count as rice.
I see rice as the application of Cliches. The altezzas, the 4" straight through muffler that robs the engine of what little torque it had, stickers for products the owner does not have, or even worse, for electric turbos, APC, and other rice hallmarks.
Of course, the reason why front wheel drive touring cars have such large wings, they have a much stiffer springrate in the rear, and fine tuning of the suspension to result in an oversteering balance, to keep the car quick through low speed corners, and to prevent understeer through medium speed corners as well.
Of course, not one in a hundred people on the street with a big wing actually HAS their suspension tuned for this this, in fact, most of those wings don't even create more than a hundred lbs of downforce, even at high speeds.
So in my books, a small wing is dressup, and may actually make the back end a little more stable at high speed during throttle off cornering.
Nothing wrong with dressup, just as long as you don't want altezzas and stickers |

| I was just thinking of a wing, I have no idea why. A small F1 shape low wing I guess. I dunno, in a week I won't remember it. |

I think it would look nicer with a 951 style air dam, Strosek rear apron, or maybe that PEFA one, BBS 17" Sport Classics with imperceptably rolled fenders, with 968 mirrors and door handles.
Just my personal taste
Oh, and welding up the round reflectors, and running with a '98+ VW front marker at each end |

You know what's really funny? A wing does squat for a front wheel drive car, such as a civic. Lol That makes it a rice wing. I don't like the big oversized wings, the streamline ones are a nice dressup for the rear end... cause God knows it needs something back there. The mitsubishi eclipse had a nice spoiler/wing on it... that's the style your looking for that's not ricey Whatever floats your boat good luck and don't drill throught the back window =) _________________ 79 Porsche 924 2.0L 5-Speed Flowmaster 40 |

Those big wings do alot for FWD Touring cars on the circuit, they provide much needed downforce for the rear wheels, which are just along for the ride on a FWD car. Those cars have a suspension setup that favours oversteer, believe it or not, and need those wings to provide rear grip at high speed.
That being said, your average '94 Civic coupe understeers like a ******, and adding a ton of grip to the rear wheels is not going to help. OTOH, it will put weight directly over the rear wheels, which would improve the handling balance of the car somewhat... Come to think of it, big ridiculous sub setups, heavy double deck wings... Relocate the battery to the trunk, and you might overcome the FWD's horrible weight distribution, maybe these ricers are on to something! |
