Dayum! Joe, is it possible you're overtensioning your belt? That can't be right, if you're using a new part...

can't be new as they don't make that type anymore, unless Joe is finding old stock...

I would say the the belt is too tight and quit using a 5lb hammer to adjust the tension...

You may remember that Joe totally cheaped-out and installed a used belt tensioner. When a new one is $15. I don't want to say I told you so, but I told you so.

Some things might be worth skimping on. You just lost another belt, right? And your time? What a waste of money.

New tensioner or not, I find it hard to believe that one person could break two tensioners within a year or so. Something must be going wrong, or put together wrong. This is why I believe engine assembly is best left to a professional. What’s next another bearing?

I wouldn't say best left to a proffensional, but I would say not to use second hand parts, like piston rings right Joe. and yah I would have to say it isbeing over tightened or struck with something before installation,

hey joe aren't you glad you didn't shave your head or deck your block, or have a wild cam, if you had it would have been new time for valves

On this board we have seen a few "weekend warrior mechanic" engine rebuilds go bad. Last time I checked properly built engines don't eat bearings, destroy belt tensioners, or have any other problems for that matter. Building an engine and then replacing the bearings, rings, or anything else this soon after seem pretty ridiculous to me. I am not bashing anyone, but building engines is not easy work. Sure working on your own car is necessary for many including myself, but I will leave things of this nature to a pro. Hell can anyone help me neuter my dog this weekend, having a pro do it is just too expensive.

No no I went out and carefully purchased all of the proper tools and parts to do the job, but I just want to preform the procedutre myself to save money. I really enjoy working on my dog.

on a NA engine w/ a stock cam yes, with a wild cam it would probably make it an interference engine, or on a turbo car (931) it is an interference engine, so yes it would make it so the car wont run, for a LONG time, until you get new valves that is

What's a "wild" cam? I mean how much more than stock? Dosn't Joe have a cam and high comp. pistons? I wonder if piston made a smack sound when belt broke??

You think it's bad to blow a headgasket by breaking the alt belt - I blew mine by flinging the alt belt off at 5000 rpm! Belt was still good when returned by the corner workers... instant overheat...
