Yeah. club sports are illegal in the US. something bitchy about it being "too fast" for american highways. and think. they'll let in lamborghinis. go figure. also, I don't think Porsche saw as good a market for the CS from the normal 968 sales so they didn't want to give any to us. eh. _________________ werd B. |

You can federalize a foreign-spec (often called "gray market") car in the US, including the 968CS. There are some changes that need to be made, usually in the lighting, crash protection, and emissions, but there are tons of European-spec Porsches in the US. It has nothing to do with the horsepower output of the vehicle, or its top speed. _________________ Jon Furst |

I know someone who did this with a BMW from Germany.
He went to Germany to pick it up. This was one of the perks of doing this.
He was told he could buy, import and certify the thing, pay for the trip and still make money on the deal.
Everything went well until the car arrived in the US. The conversion shop took for ever and called him every other day and every time they called it cost him money. "this is bad, this needs replacing, we've never seen one like this before". The brakes were the last straw.
He sold it and lost a couple of thousand.
But he wasn't looking for a one of a kind car, just a free trip to Germany. _________________ '84 944

First, the 968 is a fantastic car! It is the pinnacle of the 924/944 series. Just a shame that they were only made for four years. Worldwide there were only 12,776 968s built. Only 2417 coupes were built for the US/Can market. The Club Sport was built specifically for the European market. Only 1117 of them were built. The CS was a bit more spartan and a bit lighter than the regular version. It also came standard with the MO30 suspension package.
The 968 has a 3.0 liter, four cylinder DOHC with 16 valves. Tremendous torque. And can you belive it? These things have actually been super and turbo charged!
Best,
