Can the rear hatch shocks be re-charged? If not does anyone know where to get them at a reasonable price?

when you look through the porsche magazines like performace products and tweeks the oem rear hatch shocks are insanly expensive. for mine i went to a local car parts store like checker - just bring your old shocks and find an approximate pair, it will be about 8.99 -better than the 50 bones that performance products wants. i cant even tell the difference, and they still have the electrical spade for the rear defrost.

I tried to get the shocks from the local stores and had no luck. I shopped around some and found replacements from Vertex - Rears were $29 each and the hood (heavy duty) were $12 each so for about 90usd they were all replaced with factory 944 part numbers and they beat they hell out of getting a stick to hold up the appendages for access.
