|
|
Still running like crapola. I have the seats out so I decided to check the grounds up above the relay/fuse panel. I can't see them but I can feel the ground site.
My question is:
1) How to move the wiring out of the way safely?
2) I noticed two loose wires-- the first is red and black with a clear female spade connection on the end. Where should it go?
The second loose wire is a pair of wires to a white connector, the wires are brown and a brown/black wire. Where do these go? I'm not understanding the wiring flow charts in the manual.
Thanks Guys _________________ 1988 951

Just be sure to disconnect the battery. You can unplug the various wiring harnesses at the back of the panel to give yourself more room. The plugs are colour-coded but it's always best to write down which plug goes where.
Brown is always earth in the factory wiring. Trace it back and if it joins a wrapped bundle then it is probably factory.
I have that same unconnected red/black with the female connector. Never been bored enough to find out what it's for. Obviously nothing important, perhaps factory radio or just some option you don't have fitted. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

| Yep, I've got the unconnected red/black wire too. I don't have A/C or factory fog lights, so maybe it is for some sort of option like that. |

Thanks guys. I'm determined to get the beast running right this spring. I want to do DE with her. She's a sleeper-- the previous owner painter her white and never put the turbo emblem on the back panel. Anyway I must get her back to where she was when I bought her.
I bought the 931 with a broken differential but it ran great, you know-- stick your head in the window, turn the key and nice smooth idle. No fuss. It sat over the winter (2000 to 2001) under a cover while I searched for a gearbox to swap in. I started it every month or so until it got real, real cold and snowy. Then it sat for about 2 1/2 months before I tried to start it. It was almost impossible to start. I messed with the timing (no difference with DME!). Finally it started but it runs like crapola and has ever since. _________________ 1988 951

I just had my face in my wiring about 2 weeks ago. I think the extra wire you're wondering about is for headlight washers. Don't remember the colors on it, but I found a pretty thick wire with female spade connector and plastic cover on the end, looked it up and it was for a headlight washer.
Whatever you do, don't plug stuff in just because it's loose. A few years ago I found two unconnected wires under there that just happened to have the right connectors that they could be plugged-in together. I went and hooked them up and wound up driving the Jeep 'til I could find the time and motivation to remove the dash and trace and replace the burnt wires that resulted. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. So that's what happened. I remember that you told me you had your dash apart. How've you been? _________________ 1988 951

Still waiting for it to arrive. Got a used one cheap on ebay. We'll see how it goes. I'll give you a ring when it gets here.
Remember how we had trouble starting it after we checked the control pressure? It's doing it more often now. I had to get a ride with AAA the other day. It acted like it was out of gas but wasn't. I have to check the fuel pump. _________________ 1988 951

I'm still pretty sure it's a WUR issue. Possibly the test process furthered its' demise a bit? I don't know. I'd think the fuel pump's ok - it was showing a good ~90 psi, right? Hope they send a good one. In any case, once you get it, could disassemble the old one and see if it's just gunked-up or if a diaphragm is cracked/torn. _________________ "..it's made in Germany.
