I payed $300US for mine, and i've put in some money trying to get it started. Came with a broken starter and a crossthreaded bolt in the oilpan. Things I've replaced:
1. Breather hose
2. Intake Manifold Gasket
3. Fuel Distributor Gasket
4. Cold Start Valve Gasket
5. Cleaned out steering rack/new boots
6. Air/Oil filter
7. New Starter
8. New Belts
9. New(used) oil pan and gaskets - installing right now.
I'll try to fire her up as soon as i get the new oil pan on, and the front suspension back together.

Wow, I paid $150 USD The car runs, and I have not put any real money into it yet. (other than about $1.50 for a part a broke). It needs help on the cold start end of things and there is a problem with the air system from the crankcase, but it was a scream of a deal.

In 1988, I paid $6000 for my 82 924. The car was in perfect condition and had very low miles. I am now restoring/upgrading the car with a budget of about $4000. After restoration, I figure the car will be worth about half the restoration amount.

Last year, I bought a 1987 924S for $3,700. Low mileage and just had the front end service performed. It took about $500 to recondition and bring it back to showroom condition. I'm not overstating that. This car is in perfect condition and is a real head turner.

Wow, Pike. $150 US? That's about $221 cdn. Which means you paid 1/34 the price I did. If I found this board before I bought mine, I would have found a much better deal.

Edit:
Surfing the web now and looking at the local used car market makes me glad I bought my car when I did.

USD700.00 for the 924 (1977) with (who knows, 178k miles?), salvage
USD3500.00 for the 944 (1983) with 129.000 miles, clear

stuff:

924
* cold start valve need to be replaced, ground for starter replaced
* the wiper motor was underwater for a while, need another one
* battery tray was done in a terrible way, time for the torch
* shift linkage, bushings need tightening, replacement; same with clutch linkage
* head is probably warped (got coolant coming out the exhaust) due to fan due to repay board working intermittantly (new relay board from parts heaven, $25)
* needs cat conv. and plumbing
* got one wheel that'a totally bent and needs to be swapped out, have spare
* cracked dash & drivers seat ripped (who cares)
* a stripdown & repaint (maybe 951 engine too?)

944
* needs to be registered
* ps pump/rack needs to be replaced
* windscreen need to be replaced
* a little body work here and there (thanks to the shitty drivers of san francisco, ca)
* steering shaft needs another collar (interior, on the firewall)
* almost time for t-belts!
* cracked dash & drivers seat ripped (who cares)
* suspension, baby- preferably from a 86-951 and LOWER THAT DAMN REAR RIDE HEGHT!

Both of these machines are great to work on, but the 924 is more of a toy in that it gets good gas mileage and is fun to take apart and put back together. the 944 runs excellent and is temporarily in storage. Got pics !

i moved the tach because i liked looking at it with 4000 (my shift point) at the top... later on, i just might put an early 944 tach + speedo in there, so i can keep things consistent.

re: the colors... the red one is supposed to be blue (bahama metallic?) but was painted a shitty red that has faded beyond belief. i want to strip it and paint it white or back to the original color... the gemini grey is ok, it's metallic but needs body work on the front fenders/spoilers. fast as hell (compared to the 924!)....

price-wise, the 924 is disposable, but i would get another one in a heartbeat, these are fun cars!

Nothing a little photoshop can't fix, right?

924

1 the PO bent the spoiler to get to the bolts that secure the aluminum undertray - dumb!
2 no windscreen wipers (i removed when i found that motor is no good)
3 bad rim, have a extra one
4 nice 944 rear hatch, too bad the PO didn't put it on right!
5 see first pic (image02.1.jpg)

944

1 dent (from PO)
2 front valence all out of wack (spun out on a Rennlist outing a while ago, no, i wasn't driving fast!)
3 stupid people backing into the car (#### SUV owners, see the last pic of the 924)
4 same
5 hood needs to be realigned (from PO)
6 only one wiper, see 7
7 cracked windscreen (already have quote)
8 useless radio antenna (never listen to the radio- too busy driving!)

the 944 ROCKS!

good looking deals ya got there.
I want a 944, as much as I love my 24S I think when my money gets right I'll get Porsche # 2 for the stable. Now I need to find a stable.

Got my 1980 NA for free from my father-in-law. The mechanics he has been using for God knows how many years obviously know nothing about 924s. I've put about $1500 to $2000 into it, not to mention the gallons of blood and sweat. It should be back on the road after I replace the voltage regulator.
