I know that America only got the '87 and '88 942S, but I'm curious as to when the first '87 models started coming over. The sticker on my 924S indicates that it was built in July of 1986, and if I remember right, the owners manual shows that it was delivered to the original buyer in August of 1986 in Fort Wayne Indiana. I'm just kinda curious as to how early my car really is.

Check your VIN, there are 6947 1987 models that were imported to the US, see how your number compares to see how early it is.

What portion of the VIN tells you the number of the car in order of production?

VIN: WP0AA0920HN452020

EDIT: Apparently that means that my car is number 2,020 produced. I would have thought that it would be earlier than that given a July production date.
