Hi,
Replacing the ignition switch, I noticed a lot of play on the steering wheel bearing that is inside the ingtion lock holder.
I have a 1979 924, with the steel switches for wiper/blinker.
Is see you van buy the bearing: 911 347 771 02, but very expensive, is there an alternative from VW?
Picture as example:

If you can find a used one cheap enough, I'd give that a shot. Mine seemed to be in great shape despite the condition of the rest of the car; I had it all apart while I was replacing the ignition switch and turn signal switch assembly, so I packed it with new grease and put it back together. It's a similar story with the rest of the steering gear: all that's been replaced is the rack and pinion bellows, and the steering is just as tight as my 560SEC was with a new steering box and several other new parts. It doesn't seem like a part that would get sloppy - maybe lots of miles, or a lot of aggressive driving? _________________ 1980 931 diamond in the rough |

| The bearing in mine was actually sloppy in the housing, weirdly enough. The bearing itself was fine. I used a centre punch on the metal at the outside edge of the bearing to expand it and make it a solid fit. |
