Just popping in to say hi before I go diving across the last few decades of knowledge posted on here. A friend and I have acquired a '79 924 with the good old snail shell transmission, so I have a feeling I'll be here a lot based on my experience with it so far haha. If anyone has any super random but specific advice they wanna give me, I'm all ears. Otherwise I'll just get to reading LOL. Nice to meet y'all.

Welcome.
Lets see the car and lets see if it has issues you want to fix and start from there. If the car has a story, thats also nice to share.

of course of course. There are plenty of vacuum leaks i have to chase down yet, this is what under the hood looks like.

I bought it, running and WAY too cheap from a guy who (based on the work under the hood) didn't really know what he was doing. he thought the transmission was busted, and didn't want to mess with the weird transmission.

anyway, one new clutch cable later I had a running, driving car. (pictured above with my friend.) It's got a little rust, but every time i dive into the guts, i find new, awful surprises. (see the reverse color battery cables.)

anyway that's most of the "story," maybe not super helpful for diagnosis reasons but fun.

I'm pretty sure i've got the few transmission issues handled, but i've been struggling a bit to find information on how exactly the fan system works for the cabin. I'd like to get them running, even though i'm sure I don't have working AC. They were origionally blowing fine when i first got the car, but one day they cut out and just never worked again. I checked fuses and stuff, that wasn't it. Maybe they are connected to the vacuum system somehow? i dunno, if anyone has any general pointers for that i'd appreciate it. but i'll keep reading too.

Also, i'm having trouble with hot starts, as is pretty common i understand. I have read that there is a system that controls fuel flow to the engine once it warms up, but am still struggling to understand it/what parts i need to replace. In the same vein as that, the coolant fan isn't blowing correctly. I bypassed it with a switch for now, but i've narrowed it down to NOT the relay for controlling the fan speed. Maybe the thermostat? not sure, if anyone has any ideas feel free to share.

I ordered a haynes guide, it's supposed to get here next week so that will hopefully help a lot as well. I've also read through the "welcome noobs" sticky, that's already been helpful. thanks everyone!

Link doesnt work.
In regards to getting it running reliably, check out the link in my signature.
I make supercharger kits and EFI kits for these cars.
The EFI is actually a complete and bolt-on, plug-in engine management system that basically modernizes the car by a few decades.
SC kit adds some spice to the driving experience and transforms the 924 into a sports car that will rival many other cars in terms of how fun it is to drive it.
