Hi I'm looking at options for a rebuild I'm doing on an Opel gt. I have looked at Alfa romeo suspension with transaxles and the Porsche versions with the v2 torsion bar.
The torsion bar setup would be much easier to install into the car but is it really good enough for a modern drifter?
If I do it, I'm wondering if the new Ford dragon motor could be a good choice with an adapter to the 924 or 944 bellhousing? I want my baby corvette to have a similar setup as the newer big brothers. I'm hoping you will forgive me for asking about this in a Porsche forum. I didn't know if it would be better to ask here or in the performance section or make 2 posts.
I've seen many posts about people starting a build and never finishing. I'm guessing because of bigger motors that require cutting the inner fenders and other mods. The tiny 8x11 paper size motor with 203hp and 214ft-lbs stock would make a great Porsche powerplant that could be upped to 300 for both HP and torque. That is if you don't mind everyone chasing you with axes and clubes with torches screaming kill the monster!
I know the 944 is very similar to the Opel gt in engine bay space.
Does anyone see any issues with using this motor turned sideways? The other choice was to try to use the 1.4t and build it up to a decent amount of power. My car weighs 350kg right now and with the Porsche rear suspension, transaxle, and the Ford motor, I'm guessing it will be about 1500-1600 lbs after everything is installed. I'm not going to race it. Just want great cornering. I might want to 1/4 mile against a big brother corvette 1 or 2 times if they ever pull up at a light, lol.
I am learning about what parts are great and what isn't. It confuses me the difference between a VW mid engine van and the 924 front engine transaxle and suspension. If they are the same, why do they have drastically different prices?[img][/img] |
