|
|
I had my alternator rebuilt a couple months ago. Car has been great, wipers work and stop, park light goes off.
But now I have no charging again. Poking around found the ground strap broken. Dumb question is, this is my problem right? Change the wire and should be good?

Voltage while running drops at the battery is my symptom. Battery loses voltage. So would this strap being broken cause the alternator to not charge or that strap just makes it more efficient?
I'm thinking the alternator rebuild failed, but maybe it's this ground.
I rebuilt the original alternator, it's not a reman. _________________ 1981 Weissach Edition #179 |

Alternator can’t charge if it has NO ground..
It’s mounted on runners mostly isn’t it?
Yea you NEED a ground strap/wire and it could definitely be the problem.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Makes sense to me. There is current to that strap. Just didn't know if it grounded through another path. But that strap is there for a reason. _________________ 1981 Weissach Edition #179 |

With the rubber bushings on the alternator brackets a ground strap is required to complete the circuit. _________________ Mike
