The bolt on the rear trailing arm broke off when removing the drum brake backing plate. I drilled this out and tried using an EZ out (bolt extractor) but I haven’t been able to get it out yet. I used a tap handle to screw the EZ out but the chuck of the tap handle broke instead.
It is drilled out a little bit off center so I’m worried if i use a larger drill bit I will destroy the threads, and if I need to remake threads with a helicoil the hole won’t be centered properly.
What would you do in this situation? _________________ George

I'd use a Dremel with a metal burr and see if you can reduce the hole of the old bolt a bit further, so that basically only the threads remain. After that remove the remaining piece with a small iron pick.
Alternatively you could also try torching the remainder red hot, it may come loose. |

You seam to have drilled the hole pretty centered and big. You may be able to pick the threads or knock them out with a sharp punch.
A tap might be able to grab and turn the remains out the right way. _________________ /Magnus, Stockholm Sweden

It needs to be perfectly centered, which is easier said than done.
In the past i have used a set of needle/round files to carefully enlarge an off center hole to the point where you can pick out the remaining threads with a pick and run a tap through. Time consuming but it works. _________________ 1984 MY 924 2.0 NA
