Hi, I got a '81 924, and a lot of spare parts with it. It came with from springs 12mm in diameter, but I also got some spares that are 12,5mm in diameter.

Can anyone explain me the difference? e.g. were the thicker ones used in a newer model year? or maybe another model?

Thanks!

You didn't say if they were factory springs or aftermarket. The 12.5 mm springs have a higher spring rate than the 12 mm ones. Are they the same height?

Same height, not sure if they're factory or not, appear to be factory, but can't tell for 100%

It's probably not worth the effort to replace the existing front 12 mm springs with the others. Did you get any sway bars with the car? Those will change the handling more that just swapping front springs.

I'm replacing the dampers, so its 0 effort to replace the springs.

Just a bit concerned that it may raise the front (same height, stronger springs = less sag)

Stock springs were black with 1, 2 or 3 green or blue markings. The CGT springs are shorter and stiffer and got red marknings. M030 got red as well. Belive first year got them too.
