Hey all, Sadly me again looking for advice,
87 924s.
Had a problem with car randomly shutting off while driving.
Car progressed to shutting off on hard acceleration.
Then car got to the point it would fire up and immediately shut off. (sometimes a sputter)
I have recently changed the fuel line, filter, and fuel pump.
installed new DME relay (and tried to check wires feeding it to make sure its seated properly)
Removed/ sanded spark plugs. (had a little black build up but not bad).
Ensured gaped to .030 ish.
also checked to see if had steady stream of fuel at fuel rail.. (quite a bit came out when I gave it ignition)
Now care fires up and runs about 20 seconds and shuts off. (doesn't choke out or sputter.. just shuts off). Has a smell of 'un-burnt. fuel' as best i can describe it
Any ideas?
Thanks

If you will go to the pelican parts forum or the rennlist forum there are posts about this problem going on right now. Good luck.

Sounds like you are being methodical and ticking off problem areas.
For the DME relay have you replaced with OEM? I didn't and my new one was crapado right out of the box........

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah I did get a OME DME relay. (I suppose it could still be a bad one).
Haven't tried jumping to bypass the relay to see if that works.

But did check speed sensor and reference sensor.. (Both a little over 1000 ohms). Didn't check gap but I assume that is shouldn't just come out of adjustment.

Anything else i should be testing or checking?

Bit beyond me...but go over to Pelican/Tipec/Rennlist forums and ask there.

Good luck!

Check to make sure your rotor set screw is tight and that the rotor hasn't moved on its shaft.

Interesting.. Had to look up what exactally your talking about... But, that might just be the problem.
Working now but be the first thing I look at tomorrow.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Great thought..
The Distributor was loose at top (not locked in completely)
Removed Distributor and found locking screw was in place on the ignition rotor.
Dust shield was also broken.
Cleaned inside distributor and ignition rotor with electric contact cleaner and light sanding.
Put it all back together and sadly it didn't fix the problem.
Not sure I can completely eliminate it (maybe the broken dust shield/ improper seating caused issues with the ignition rotor.)
but feel like I would have seen a little difference.

any other ideas?

Well...
Problem ended up being the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR).
I was directed there by another member, with link to clarks garage article.
really appreciate the online communities
