I am dismanteling a f few 924 engines discovered two different conrods, does anybody know more about this ? Maybe the left one is stronger ?
Other differences:
oil pipe in cilinder head:
Oil feed sump, with one steel mounting point (forgot the picture) and with an aluminium bracket with two

I have never seen variations in the rods, so that is indeed interesting.
I suspect that the cam oiler tubes were manufactured by different suppliers. I have had several of each variation, and have never been able to pin it down to a specific VIN range, model year range, or NA vs 931. It could be one of those scenarios where it was dependent upon the supplier.
As for the oil pickup, all 931s that I've disassembled have had the later alu bracket such as the one in your photo. I have also seen 81 and 82 NA cars with this setup. I suspect this was an improvement that was made for the 931, and when they ran out of the all steel setups used by the early NAs, they just used this design from everything on out. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Could those divots in those con rods there be accommodation for piston oil squirter holes? _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

The one on the left is actually not a divot, it's a protrusion, and it is indeed an oil squirter. I have seen one set of very early 924 NA rods that did not have squirters. Everything else that I've seen has squirters like the one on the left. Not sure what the story is on the one on the right. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
