I have owned a number of front engine Porsches; currently enjoying a Guards Red 1987 924S. I love them because they inexpensive to purchase and parts are fairly easy to obtain. One problem I have is finding someone to occasionally work on the cars in my area of Dallas County, Texas. There are 3 Porsche dealerships and a couple of European car shops in the DFW Metroplex - too faraway and expensive. I am looking for a local mechanic in south Dallas County that our 924 forum may recommend. I have used City Garage for minor stuff I couldn't do; but I am thinking of replacing seals on my cam cover (to take care of a minor oil leak) and perhaps replacing timing belt+water pump in the near future. Can anyone recommend someone? Thanks beforehand - Ted

The best mechanic you can get for your 2.5 is yourself. Sorry, might take some learnin' and some investment in tools, but is the best way to go. . .by far.

Rasta is correct. These 2.5L engines look intimidating when you open the hood. However, once you remove the air cleaner box, the intake manifold, etc., they're pretty easy to remove. Depending upon the oil leakage, you might not have to remove it. However, if you can't see any aluminum parts due to oil, then time to remove the engine. Follow Clark's Garage 944 manual for each subsystem as you prepare to clean, replace, assemble. Take pictures as well.
