Hiya Ron........I've been contemplating the LED route for years now, and you've just sold me on it!
Where did you grt them, and more importantly, what are the actual light values (i.e. wattage, etc)
I've a need to do this in all my cars as my nightvision (short didtance is shot).

I got them from superbrightleds.com.
They draw only .2 watts vs 1.2watts on the stock bulbs, and put out 5 lumens, don't know what the stock ones put out.
They appear much brighter than the stock ones, side by side.

Here is the link for the ones I bought, they also have a 10 lumen one if you want daylight, lol

Hey Rasta which alternator light are you talking about the one in the combo gauge on the left or a stand alone gauge?

I noticed that the turn signal and high beam light in the combo gauge would not work with a LED'S installed.

The high beam indicator stayed on all the time and just got brighter when you turned on the high beams, and the turn signal one didn't work at all. I tried wiggling them with no luck, put the incandescent ones back and they worked fine.

I put LED's in the fuel, and temp gauges, as well as the parking brake, oil and the alt warning lights on the combo gauge they all worked fine.

Combo cluster gauge.

Odd, my high beam and turn signals are LED and work fine.

Flasher is load based, needs a higher resistance value to work properly. Change the flasher relay to one that isn't load based or add resistors in the circuit some place.

The high beam one is an odd one, that should work like just fine, but maybe there's a flasher-style relay for it as well since some have the flash to pass capability?

Try replacing the flasher relays with LED-compatible versions and try the LEDs again, at least the turn signals should work. Not sure about the high beam, but that turn signal stalk stuff can be a bit odd on these cars at times.

Good luck!

Hmm, you used the B8.5d bulbs right? Did they work on all the combo gauge lights?

I just took out the incandescent ones and put in the 74s.
I may get some of those and try them if that's the case, in all but the alternator of course.

I just looked at my gauge again and it has on the left battery, parking brake, and gas, on the right it has oil, turn signal, and high beam. The battery light is a much larger incandescent bulb and I didn't replace that one.
It that what you mean for the alternator bulb?

Well the B8.5D's didn't work in the high beam and turn signal lights either, and I don't feel like spending the extra money or the led flasher and the load module so I just put in the 2.4v bulbs in those and they are plenty bright enough.

Made some more progress the past few weeks.
I put in the new carpets, center console, as well as all the interior panels, new seals, and rear seats. I also installed some new infinity Kappa's 4x6 speakers in the rear and will mount some in the doors as well.

The only things left to do inside is to install the stereo and amp, new "Porsche" embossed door cards, front speakers, front seat and steering wheel.

It's coming along nicely and won't be long before it's finished.

Ron

Here are some pics, (btw I have an extra carpet kit in same color that I'm looking to sell and will make a post in the for sale forum when I get a chance.)

Man, that is one classy interior. Looks familiar.
Seriously though, it's good to see someone putting the car back together the right way.

Very nice, I wish my drivers seat was in that good of condition, but I still have a new pair of genuine sheepskin seat covers I bought in 89, lol.

I do want to get one of those armrest/cassette holders though.
