I am considering buying a 924S as a parts car. I’m building a 931.
The million $ question is... How many parts will fit my 31. Obviously the driveline is different but how about body, suspension and electrical parts?
BTW if you have a suiteble car for sale please let me know. _________________ 931 Current status: bits and pieces |

Depending on the current transaxle in the 931, the TT and transaxle might be the same as the later 931's used the same TT and Audi-based gearbox as the 944 and 924S (gearing might be different, so a little research should be done there to confirm)
Suspension, aside from the steering rack and crossmember, are mostly interchangeable. There are some issues with the aluminum front control arms fitting, but some fettling work seems to get around that. I would use the 968 castor blocks instead of the original style blocks (if you're going aluminum arms, might as well do it right the first time)
Cat-back exhaust mate up (though the 944 turbo cat-back is a better option for an upgrade to the 931)
Interior and body parts will swap over as well.
With some work you could probably adapt the power hatch release and the power sunroof to the 931. _________________ Stefan

question is what parts do you need specifically for your restoration?
very little engine/trans mechanical and electrical (other than headlights and things).
you could opt for a fully audi trans swap...its a bit of work but you will have the advantage of cheap and plentiful boxes.
Most sheetmetal will work...minor differences in some spots...but doors, hood, rocker panels will all work. |

A Euro 931 will have the G31 trans regardless of model year; the 924S trans will swap over, but you would need to take everything including the torque tube, shift linkage assembly, trans, mounts, and the torsion carrier (or modify the G31-based torsion carrier). Steering rack and intermediate shaft are not swappable (without modification).
The 924S also has steel A-arms, so no worries there (it was only the 86-onward 944/951 that got the alu A-arms).
The 924S has alu trailing arms which can be nice for getting into the better range of rear-coilovers, rear shocks, etc. that are available for the late model 944 range. If the 931 has 4-lug suspension, then it would be a no-brainer to swap in the entire suspension from the 924S.
You won't be able to use much of the sheet metal. The hood, badge panel, and chin spoiler are all different (you can make them fit, but you'll lose all of the 931 character with the vents and such). The front fenders will also bolt on, but they will lack the attachment points for the 931 plastic rocker covers. The doors are direct swap. The sunroof panel (and its seals) are swappable, but you will need to transfer the manual bits from the 931 to the 924S panel including the liner.
The glass will all work. The mirrors will all work. Most of the interior can be used (although there are some subtle differences with the rear quarter liners, center console, and door cards that will all require some modification to work on the early chassis). The HVAC will not easily swap over, but can be done by modifying the sheet metal in the bulkhead area (where the fresh air comes through).
All of the lights (interior and exterior) are pretty much swappable. The headlight buckets are swappable but not the motor / linkage (931 is on the opposite side due to the CIS components). Some of the electrics are swappable, although there are differences with the speedo and tacho, as well as some of the switch gear (the wiper/turn signal switch gear will not easily swap onto a 1980 and earlier chassis, but should be interchangeable onto a 1981-onward ROW car).
This is a good list, but by no means comprehensive. It's a mixed bag, as you can see, so it really depends on what you need as to whether it's worthwhile. The parts you can't use could be sold to fund other aspects of your project. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Chears all.. The thing is.. I started restoring my 31 and after i had it sandblasted it turned out it had been damaged and repaired quite badly(beyond repairable, repairs.. :/ ). To get it right i needed to cut out the entire floor and firewall. So when i have cleaned everything up i would have to take the floor and firewall from a donor. Yes i know.. I'ts not worth it. But considering the price of another 931 in Denmark there are no way around it, and I enjoy the learning process involved:) and i get to by more tools:) witch is great
And then i thought why not go for a shell that had the most usable parts so when i continue the resto after the sheet metal repairs i have a ton of parts to choose from. like Wiring, suspension parts, brakes etc.
The NA924 is out of the question because of the 4-lug so i thought why not a 924S or a early 944.
BTW all my panels like door, roof, hood bumpers etc. are usable. Same goes for the interior.

firewall is not gonna work. it is different as is the battery tray. you might be better with an old 4 lugger as a donar than the "S" |

I have found a dismantler is Germany who has all transaxle parts (http://www.rspautoteile.de) I just need to writhe him the parts i need and he will help me out. It is a long ride down there but hope it is worth it.
Now.. i just thought why not go for some upgrade parts while i'm there. Do you have any ideas, i'm going for a track/street- hotrod. I've already caged it:)
I know about the obvious parts like early 951 brakes, but how about suspension upgrades like roll bars, wishbones and so.
