Two questions:

Would the part number for +.50mm be 046 198 455
and
+.75mm be 046 198 457 then following the pattern for the .25mm over sizes?

Also, I would be curious as to what the questions are and what their respective answers are. Can this information be made public? I would find it interesting to see what factors were taken into account when determining bearings.

Yes and Yes. This information is in section 198 of the PET.

So far, I've only gotten questions from morghen. I will send them off to see if we can get answers (no promises). I will post back whatever responses I get back.

I need to pull down my build engine and mike the crank, might be a while before I get to this. Is this a one shot thing or a repeat item? You might have said that, but I don't recall

I am happy to take Dan's guarantee that the bearings are the correct size and an appropriate material. He hasn't let me down before and when there has been a problem he has sorted it out (remember the head gaskets?).

Ill have 2x sets of mains at 0.25

Can we get undersized bigends as well?

PS I cant pay for 2-3 weeks, hope this is OK.

No, this order should hopefully end the concern about these bearings ever going NLA again. This is simply an opportunity to get in on the pre-order to save a few dollars. So anyone who doesn't need bearings right this moment should have no problem getting them later, albeit at the higher price.

Thanks for the kind words, Daniel, very much appreciated! Will add you to the list. Pre-order pricing is good until 15 February, so plenty of time.

Big ends in standard and first under (or over, depending on which convention you prefer to use!) are readily available, no problem. $62 per set. --> http://garage.ideola.com/prod-EngineRebuildKits.html#block

Great news, when the mains are ready to ship i and if I have some spare cash i'll grab some so I have complete sets for rebuilds.

I have a question for the manufacturer:

What kind of warranty will be in effect if there is a manufacturing defect in the parts, and that defect causes incidental damage, such as damage to other engine components (crank, block) or the cost of gaskets, supplies or labor for an engine teardown?

TIA

These are the questions submitted to me by morghen, which we forwarded to the manufacturer:

GENERAL
  • What other bearings are made by the manufacturer? For example, do they also make some Honda/Mazda/Toyota bearings that we can look into and see how are they doing on the market in terms of quality and reliability?
  • Is there any warranty? If yes, who offers it and in which form?

DIMENSION CONTROL
  • Did they copy/paste the tolerances from other bearings they make or did they take into consideration the tolerances shown in the 924 tech specs booklet (diameter tolerance, radial runout, circularity runout, etc.)?
  • Did they / will they perform a hi-lo study with the set of tolerances they chose?
  • Did they / will they perform an FMEA study to identify critical items?
  • Did they / will they match the surface quality (smoothness) of the King/OEM parts, or did they use some other specification?

QUALITY CHECK
  • How often do they measure parts and how do they do it (gauge, 3D machine and jig, etc.)?
  • Do they also measure surface quality?
  • Do they measure material hardness? If yes, how?
  • Do they make sure the prime materials are always the same?

CONSTRUCTION & MATERIAL COMPOSITION
  • Layer definition, i.e; how many layers, and what order?
  • Material appears to be AlSn10Si2.5 from the drawing, but how does that translate to the types of materials used in each layer?

Some answers to follow in next post.
