|
|
If I understand this correctly I can get a turbo off of a 951, take the turbine housing off and replace it with my 931 housing. Do some custom plumbing between the turbo and airflow meter/air filter, install an aftermarket blow off valve somewhere on the pressure manifold and have a new upgraded turbo due to available watercoing?
This does the trick?
Easier/better than trying to find a stock replacement turbo? _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Man, I know I have read something about this here. If only there were some way to search the site.

Allright rosta man...
I probably have over 15 hours clicking that search button and reading pages apon pages of posts trying to weed out the 2% of text that actually contains valueable information to my specific need and am just trying to confirm what I thaught to be my best bet as of so far before I go and drop a months worth of spendable income on parts that I can only hope will get this car rolling. I have read all over about the timing belt, fuel lines, pump ohm resistance, vaccume lines, and all else trying not to miss anything on my searches. Do you understand how much of a complication it is to search for information about a turbocharger for a car that's name it's self includes the keyword "turbo". It's boggling!!
Is it too much to ask for some personally useful dialog geared towards my personal situation and need?
Should I just read everything, do what I think will work based on my interpretation of what I read, and never post anything regardless of the outcome?
Thaught these forums were for helping eachother get and keep our cars running and spreading knowledge of what we have learned so the next guy doesn't make the same mistake you or I just did because they didn't know.
Help me save this car!!! Anyone? _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Try typing this in the google search field:
site:924board.org "housing" "951"
and similar with different key word, much better search engine _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

As this is a discussion forum and not merely an archive I'll answer your question Fast Eddie, instead of wasting my own time and yours.
You can bolt your 931 turbo exhaust housing to a 951 turbo, provided it is the later 951 turbo, from the 250hp 951.
Strangely enough it was just as quick to answer your question as it would have been to tell you to go search for it... _________________ 1979 UK 932 |

Valid, however many times new members show up and start rapid firing every question they have, many of which have been previously discussed ad nauseum. Repeating threads on the same topic over and over again is one thing that makes our database larger and the Search function less effective. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Thank you very much for the clarification
Without that I may well have wound up with an earlier 944 turbo and been SOL...
On the search for a turbo...
I have a 931 turbo in good shape from a reliable source nailed down for $300
If I can score a late 944 turbo for not much more I will probably go that rout..
And I think I have another stock oil cooler and lines nailed down, I'm thinking about running the other cooler In the turbo oil feed line right on that hood scoop and putting a T fitting high up on that cooler with a cap so I can pre purge that oil system before starting it so there will be no dry run time..
I think that would be a great start towards more upgrades down the road.. Thinking ahead
Gradual improvments towards 250ish hp sounds amazing
I don't think I could ask for a better base car to start with _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

That's a good point. Back in my square headlight Jeep Wrangler days, (still have one), a 2" suspension lift was the initial 'lift', (either aftermarket or DIY, modification) for bigger tire fitment. As time moved on, and lifts/tires got bigger, the Jeep forum members reacted similarly to questions on early modifications such as described.
I did a quick search here knowing that others have done this turbo modification. However, most of the searches produced posts such as this asking for initial help. Finding the actual write-ups requires more effort. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

For the k26/8 conversion you need a 931 series 1 hotside right ? Does is matter if it is USA or ROW ? _________________ 937 trackday car

I'm not sure about the USA specs.
Better to play it safe and go for RoW series 1 size 6 hot side (larger than series 2 and more suited to the K26/8 )
Holy grail for the KKK's is the 924GTS hot side size 8. _________________ 1979 UK 932 |

The turbine wheel profile doesn't change; as a consequence, any of the hotsides can be interchanged, although I agree that the 6.10 is the one you want. (The GTS version will be nearly impossible to find). The 6.10 came on ROW S1 cars, and some of the very earliest of the US-spec cars (look for 1979 US-spec 931s being parted out...not common, but out there). _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I will most likely stick with the 4.10 I have knowing that it would be hard to source the 6.10, I have done a lot of reading and a very reputable turbo company in England, some aes ace asc turbo something said that the 4.10s are good up to 300hp. k26/8 turbos seem not that easy to get for a reasonable price so im going to talk to the turbo shop about rebuilding mine and maybe fitting a slightly larger comp wheel to my housing after a bore job. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |
