Can anyone tell what the A/C voltage is on a good working crank sensor? I am in the process of making sensors. Measure between term# 13 and 14 but it has to be measured in A/C voltage at cranking. need asap! So I can get mine running again. and maybe others.

Thank you Tony Griffin

Not sure anyone here know the answer... Voltage as I know should be low enough to be amplified in DITC... but once (flywheel 1-st teeth) is much more stronger or higher than normal ones. Most important in good sensor is resistance between connectors (you can find proper values in service manual or here on board).
As I saw sensor should be just two coils in one housing... never had chance to get one bad sensor and take it apart for research so I'm not 100% sure what else could be inside.

I have never measured this on my 931 so bear that in mind. The CPS on the 931 is a dual VR sensor so on the primary coil the voltage will vary with crank speed. Based on experience with other engines you should be measuring about 1V (maybe less) at crank and up in the 100s of V at high rpm. The secondary coil has fewer turns and therefore only produces a measurable output when the "special" tooth passes it once per crank revolution. In theory it should be possible to wind a couple of coils to do the same job and produce a similar output. Good luck with that and if you are successful then you will find yourself with a lot of new friends.

We've been taking lots of measurements with a view to finding an alternative over at porsche924.co.uk one of our members has detailed it quite well using an oscilloscope.

Would be good to pool resources, though the parts manager at one of our OPCs has suggested that if we ask enough they will remanufacture non-trim components....

I'd be interested to see some of that data. Any chance of a link to the relevant post? Thanks.

http://porsche924.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=14336&hilit=crank

It's here but it's in a members only section, great club though and we post magazines, etc worldwide for no extra charge.

Ask Mr.P (membership@porsche924.co.uk) for a discount on membership as we're past half way in the year.

As posted on another thread re NLA bearings, we at the 924 owners club are compiling a NLA list to lobby Porsche and other suppliers to regain some supplies. If we can pool our resources, time, knowledge and contacts we may be able to resolve some deal breakers of NLA parts.

We would welcome any contact and support on this http://www.porsche924.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=16778

I have tried to get on the UK site but why the charge? So if you cannot find it on the UK site look here. I suggest we petition the UK site to let us 924.org site guys enter for free just like the UK guys visit us free.

Thanks again John for all your work on this site.

Because the 924OC is a club first which funds many things including the website. Without the charge the club nor website wouldn't exist.

So if we here in N. America want to just join the Forum aspect do we get a discount on membership since we quite obviously cannot make the other events that the membership dues help fund ?

Guys...as far as i know, joining the forum is free.

Some areas of the forum are only available for the club members.
These areas mainly include the technical help section.

Plenty of UK members don't do any events. They're still happy to stump up just £20 for the use of the full website and 3 mags per year.

I measured 1.3PPV at idle and someone has suggested that it is 2.5PPV at 5000rpm, although I have yet to confirm that or voltage whilst cranking.

I will be measureing both of these when I dig the oscilloscope out again!

PS First post, hello all!
