|
|
I've had an issue since purchasing the car in 2005 in which the wiper motor on my 1977 n/a works like shit. Low speed works better than high speed. I've taken the motor apart a couple times, replaced the grease, removed any rust, lubed, etc and it is the same story. Actually, it might be worse now: Sometimes they get stuck now and stop mid-wipe when on high. (The gears are all in great shape too btw)
Is it possible this motor is just junk? Or am I missing something? Is there a wiper motor from a more modern car that can be swapped in that works better? I'd like to have working wipers for, you know, when it rains which has been pretty regular around here lately. _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 - sold

Yes, the wipers are not the best on these cars but at least should wipe away medium rain easily. I would suggest checking the ground connections and also all of the wires/connectors on the relays and fuse (the fuses used on 924-s are notorious of making bad contact due to oxidation). _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Then the next best solution is a good coat of Rainx. Happy motoring. _________________ 1977 Hilda. Thinks she is 77.5 |

If it gets stuck mid-wipe, I would actually suspect a worn down gear like this:

When I said I took apart the motor a couple times, that also means I looked at this issue. It looks brand new. When I said it stopped mid-wipe, I didn't mean it paused, it literally stops and won't move again. The motor also stops as well.
I had to drive it through the rain the other day, and didn't seem too bad. Better than it's ever been. High was actually faster than low. Not long after on another day though it definitely lacked some of the oomph it had before. _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 - sold

| it seem that there should be some electrical brushes that drive the motor. Did you replace those? |
