I have a 30mm bar installed on the Club Sport. I used riv-nuts as described above, and despite the prediction of their demise, they have stood up just fine to spirited street driving (about 800 miles so far). I am also planning to add the Tarett stiffener brackets for a little extra support.
I don't have pix and I'm not currently with the car, but I'll try to add some later on to show where I mounted the riv-nuts. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Yep, I'm aware of this, but there is no way to mount them flush without removing the factory mounts or "boxing" in the mount with some tubing or something.
*Basically, grinding the studs down, and fabricate a flat mounting surface to mount the L bracket to.
I had to go with this style sway bar because my downpipe hits/interferes with the original body mount style.. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

I would build a steel plate from angle iron that sits between the body and those brackets so that you could pick up all of the bolt holes and studs.
You could use angle iron to provide some rigidity for fore/aft forces for the plate since it would be a bit cantilevered and then brace the 'L' bracket to the edge of the angle iron to further distribute the forces.
It won't be pretty or lightweight, but it should be functional and cheap. _________________ Stefan

The mounting position of the late style L brackets does NOT interfere with the early style saddles. I'm having a hard time ascertaining from your photos why this would be the case on your car, but on the Club Sport, I'm pretty sure the L-bracket attaches IN FRONT of the saddle. I'll have to verify this by looking when I get home. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I could possibly have the bar inverted or it could be the steel control arms?
I'll take a closer look at it because I initially thought it was strange, maybe I don't have the bushing in the right spot or the L-Bracket isn't square. I mean the bushing should be moved outward on each side so that the L-Bracket is in the middle of the chassis beam, but this is the only way I could get things bolted up and driveable! _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

I'd fabricate a whole new bracket which can be located in the original saddle and be reinforced to avoid the inevitable snappage of the original 'L' version. It could even be U shaped to wrap the chassis rail for more security, even with a bolt or two horizontal through the rail and bracket.
As is that's going to shear those studs in an instant if you hit a pot hole let alone start swinging it through the bends. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

so the charge pipe from my supercharger doesn't have to do a u bend around the sway bar... dropping it 3 inches would allow me to run a shorter pipe in a more direct fashion... that's all...

Just had a look. I mounted the L bracket about 3" behind the saddle designed for the early bars; so between the saddle and the cross member. My L-brackets are exactly 90 degree perpendicular to the frame spar. I tried snapping some pix, but the car is at the house, and all the tools are at the garage; I can't get the camera in position under the front of the car to photograph it! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
