Just thought I'd share pics of my lightweight carpet. It's indoor/outdoor carpet in grey from Home Depot and it was really cheap and very thin.
Whatcha think so far? _________________ Stefan

BTW, the starter from a newer Audi Quattro (89 Audi 90 2.3L Quattro) dropped right in and works perfectly.
The carpet is $17.87 per 6'x8' roll from the local Home Depot Racing Supply. Looks like I'll need two to do the car, but I bought another one just in case (I can use it on the floor under the car or while camping)
They are extremely light, I can pick up a 6x8 roll with one hand. I'd say maybe 10lbs? _________________ Stefan

fiat22turbo -
just curious - how did this project turn out for you- I was looking at a similar project myself for the summer, and the carpet is on sale
what I had seen looked very good at that point - very promising

Actually just finished up the passenger side a few weeks ago.
So far it is working well. Looks nice, doesn't show stains, easy to clean, etc.
However, without the insulation on the floor/tunnel a lot of heat transfers through, just driving around in mid-60's weather made it uncomfortable for my feet. I'll pull the carpeting out and put some insulation under it when I get back from California this weekend. I need to redo the driver's side as the center section has come loose (not enough double stick tape)
I need to pull it out and pressure wash it as the lack of door/sunroof seal has caused the inside to get a little musty from mold thanks to the June showers around here (note: never bring out a car you know leaks in the rain until after the Portland Rose Festival, cause just like Le Mans, it always rains during the Rose Festival
I might add some floor mats as well to deal with the eventual wet weather this fall/winter.
Lots more work to do: Insulation, final paint, seals/trim, exhaust work, EFI tuning, alignment, road certification, etc. _________________ Stefan

I did the exact same thing once in a 93 acura legend before I sold it. That carpeting certainly does the job as long as you're meticulous about cutting it right. I definitely wouldn't recommend going that route if you're trying to make something "cherry" but it's better than rotting, greasy torn-up carpet and only costs less that $50 when you're done. _________________ 1979 924 NA

Ah I recognize that carpet! We'd take that stuff with us when we went camping. Since it is so thin, it becomes wrecked very quickly with a little mud and water. Not great properties for carpet meant for a car here in the Northwest. On the other hand, if you have some floor mats, it should be fine. _________________ Brian

Yep. It's working okay so far. I need to add some insulation around the foot of areas and a few more strips of double sided tape. With some floor mats it should work well.
So far the car hasn't seen a drop of rain, but the stuff is cheap enough that if it goes to crap, I'll not cry over it too much. _________________ Stefan
