|
|
Well I finally got my racing seats mounted and installed on my 924
They are amazingly comfortable and look amazing
However I am a bit short (5'6) and need to bring the seat quick far in front.
At the position where my feet can properly use the clutch my seatbelt is barely able to click.
Since my current seatbelt is pretty worn out I am debating on the following:
- Custom made longer seatbelt
- racing harness
I'll mainly be using the car as a week-end car and maybe go to the track for lapping sessions 2-3 times a year.
I'm open to your suggestions or if you have sites with decent pricing I'll gladly take them. _________________ 1979 924 NA |

I installed a Sparco Evo2 Plus recently in my track car. I'm 6' 2', minus that age-related shrinkage, but got rid of the oem three point harness. I ordered up a 5-point racing harness from G-Force, via Saferacer.com. $149 bucks! No point in putting in a race seat, and still flop around while using the 30 year old seat belt! Sparco also has a four point unit that is DOT legal you might want to look at. I use it on the passenger side of the racer. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Didn't knew 4 point existed as I only saw 5 or 6 points.
This sounds like the good middle ground for my 2 different needs.
I see G-force makes one also for 30$ cheaper, how can i see if it is DOT legal?
also I guess I'll need a harness bar in order to put those, any insight on what is available for the 924 or 944? _________________ 1979 924 NA |

I bought a used one, and 924-76 has one for sale as well. Or, play with the big kids and buy a new one! http://www.paragon-products.com/Harness-Bars-Brey-Krause-p/bk_r1020.htm _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Well seems i end up eith about 600-700$ if i go with "racing" harness
I have a set of 1987 924 seatbelts in my stock room, anybody know if the belts are longer on later model 924? _________________ 1979 924 NA |

I wouldn't recommend driving with racing harnesses on the street, except for maybe the DOT legal Schrotch harnesses (and even those I'm not sure about because 4-pt belts are generally considered unsafe but maybe these are better). The reason I say to avoid racing harnesses on the street is that they should really be used with a HANS device. Harnesses basically lock your torso in place, but in a collision, your head is still free which puts a lot of stress on your neck. 3-pt belts are designed so that in a collision, your torso rotates forward. From what I've read, the 4-pt Schrotch harnesses work the same way (1 shoulder strap is designed to give in an impact). Because your torso is moving, there is less stress on the neck. I suppose that you could wear a helmet and HANS device on the street, but you would have basically 0 peripheral vision, which is not ideal obviously. _________________ '87 924 S - No sunroof and a few modifications |
