As tire sizes are consolidated, looking for a 15" reasonably-priced track tire. I like the Dunlop Star Specs, but the size is 205/50/15s for 131 bucks at tire rack. Next up I'd like to consider, are the Toyo RA1s for 172 bucks each (225/50/15).
On the 205, would the 50 sidewall height be proportionate to the 205 width? Or would a 45 sidewall be better? I'm mounting on 4-15x7 cookie cutters. I'm towing the car on a two-wheel dolly, up to 600 miles roundtrip. So, was thinking the Star Specs would last longer? _________________ '83 944 Track car.

225/50R15 RA1 are on my race car (15x7 phone dials). One set shaved, one set full tread. The RA1s are progressive, forgiving, and recover quickly if overcooked. They are great tires. . .head and shoulders over Star Specs, not even in the same class really, and I have driven both on track.
Also, Toyo has released a new comp tire, the Proxes RR, which might be worth looking into, as they don't need shaving.
As for towing, it will be worth the effort to have a set of "roller" wheels and tires for towing and storing the car. RA1s will actually crack and experience sidewall failure if you leave them on with the car on the ground at extreme low temps. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I could do the 2nd tire gig, just need a couple more wheels! I'll check with my local pick and pull, they have that '83 944 down there. I'm heading back next week to pull the rear suspension out, already have the front. I'm leaning towards the RA1, but, the 944Spec guys are going to the RR tire and can spend their Toyo bucks on them. _________________ '83 944 Track car.
