A new to me '87 924s came with the carpets removed by the PO; however, there are two strips running fore to aft in the floor of the front that has a number of cut-outs that I can't help but wonder if they should be covered. That is, are they missing rubber plugs of some sort or is this for the purpose of allowing air to flow into the subfloor?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

On my 79 they were taped over underneath the sound deadening/asphalt.
