Sounds high to me.

Consider:

Its an 87 not an 88
Fading paint
When was last belt service done and can he prove it
I'm guessing the interior has a cracked dash and torn seats.
What would it be worth if all those things were right (hint: $5k)
What will it cost to get them right?

Id be in the $3k-ish range at most if it was me, and that's probably with good maint records and *nothing* else wrong (like body/paintwork, leaking steering rack, a/c not working, etc...)

With the 944 seen as "above" the 924S from a market perspective, that also pressures toofah prices down.

With all due respect to the seller, there are a lot of folks out there that think their (house/car/boat/whatever) is worth more than the market is saying it is worth..., sour pill to swallow for some and causes some clash between what's in their head and the rest of the world.

Just something to think about...

Bad paint, high miles? No sale, not even close.

I'd guess it depends on the car, it's condition, mods and history...I just sold my 924S for what I wanted for it...took less than two weeks. Oh, and the new owner is not "wet behind the ears", already has a 944 and grandchildren!!!

Can't say I agree with all you guys on this one.
1. 100,000 miles is not high for a 924S/ 944.
2. A higher mileage chassis that's had all its needs attended to when it needed them is worth way more than a lower mileage chassis that has multiple "original" systems ready to fail. High mileage is not a show stopper. I don't care what the odometer shows, I care what condition the car is in right now. Know what I mean?
3. Is the faded paint Guards red? If so, we buff those single-stage factory paint jobs out and make them look NEW!
4. Last 924S we bought and sold went for $4,000. It was very nice.
5. We have an 87 924S currently that has over 100,000 miles and is in exceptionally nice condition. Local PCA'ers say it should be concours'd. All correct hardware and the car is completely correct otherwise. We're asking around $8,000 and will probably get it. Time will tell.
6. 88's don't pull more money than 87's in spite of the modest power increase, which also mandates 91 octane gas, unless someone wants to build a 944 Spec race car.

I would like a 924s but every one I have looked at has been junk.

Hrm... I've seen it done but you'd be lucky to find one where that works, from personal experience (implies the paint is intact, just faded in the outer layer(s), which is not commonly the case from what I've seen).

Sounds fair enough.

Put down the glue...
Not a snowflake's chance in Hell unless the buyer is simply a sucker.

This is straight-up subjective but I'd take an '88 over a comparable '87 anytime. This line of Porsches is not old enough nor special enough for the early models to have more prestige than the later ones. Incremental improvements from year to year are quite real. All things being equal, the newer they are, the better -and, oddly, rarer -they are. Simple as that.
That being said, is an '88 worth 50% more than an '87? No, obviously not. But would it have a price premium nonetheless? It would in my humble opinion.

.....I'd put down the glue, but it's stuck to my hand AND the beer bottle.
