|
|
On a whim I decided to check out my gutless heater fan. It usually only blows weak. I ran some test leads direct from heater fan to battery. She was blowing like a jet engine. I then bought a 2.00 toggle switch and mounted it on my lower guage panel and ran new wires from battery to toggle swith to fan and ran new ground from fan to battery neg. Now in the chilly morning i start my car flip my toggle switch and presto... high volume air from my heater fan. I mean jet wash... lol. Can any of you enlighten me if this is dangerous to do? It seems to work excellent. Its only been installed a few days but its been incredible. _________________ 1979 924 N/A Not Fast, but a BLAST to drive. |

Keep a fire extinguisher handy, and make sure to fuse the circuit. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

Being semi-facetious with the fire extinguisher suggestion.
If you are fused you are probably OK. Not sure what rating fuse. Others may be able to chime in on that. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

Your probably going to run too cold.
Normal operation- Fan runs fast when motor running and is hot.
After shut down the fan runs at slow speed until the thermo switch cuts out.
There is a resistor in the circuit that is bypassed by the relay to run the fan at full speed. Sounds like a fault in the wiring, relay, resistor or thermo switch.

He's talking about his in-cab heater system. I did the same thing on Spike, but ran it thru a relay, much safer than just using a switch. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Hmm, then why not use the juice from the #3 (high) position on the fan switch to trigger the relay? _________________ Toofah King Bad

Good idea. But isn't the heater fan control on the 1981 and earlier actually a flat rheostat? I think the 1982 got a multi-position switch. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

Uh, there was still a 'few' wires to sort out, even though all the heater control wires were attached. I might have missed one. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Nope, looks like one put there is no potentiometer. . .just three outputs. _________________ Toofah King Bad
