Hey All,
So I am currently working at getting the webers installed on my car. I have a set of the 40 dcoe side drafts. Does anyone have pictures of how they modified the coolant pipe that runs along the side of the engine block? I'm a bit confused about what I should do with that, along with all the vacuum lines left unconnected after dumping the CIS.
Thanks,

I didn't have to mod my coolant pipe at all. _________________ 81 924 N/A

I tweaked the mounting tabs slightly to keep it from rubbing slightly.
Simply mounted the tube in place without the hoses connected, then test fit the webers, noted where they hit, removed the webers and gently bent the entire tube down slightly.
Test fit the webers one more time, make any further adjustments needed and then the install hoses before installing the webers for the final time. _________________ Stefan

Thanks for the help guys. How do you have the vacuum lines set up? Seems I read somewhere you can get rid of alot of the vacum lines.

You need a vacuum line for the distributor and one for the brake booster.
the crank case should vent to a catch can.
The trick is that you have to join all of the vacuum signals from the 4 cylinders into a vacuum manifold/storage solution in order to have a stable vacuum signal for the distributor and to generate enough vacuum volume to operate the power brakes.
Luckily, this is a common problem with nearly any ITB or weber conversion on a production vehicle, so there are many different solutions for solving the vacuum issue. _________________ Stefan

Stefan,
Do you happen to know of any articles or threads about how to stabilize the vacuum? Could the stock vacuum amplifier be of any help in this situation?

Folks:
Regarding vacuum signals from all 4 cylinders:
I've been in touch with an engineer at Ford about creating a plenum that would tap into the F.I. ports in the head (which go un-used when Webers are installed) instead of drilling and tapping the manifold itself.
He said it should work fine. You only need a line to the distributor and the brake booster. All the other vacuum lines relate to the F.I. system.
An exception might be the later heater setup which uses (I believe) engine vacuum to open the coolant line valve to the heater core.
Robb
I would think that, if you have the charcoal cannister (1980-on) you'd want to run a line to the air cleaner to such those vapors into the engine. _________________ I've owned too many cars. 1980 Porsche 924 with European bumpers |
