I love all the 3d modeling!
What is your design for the turbo exhaust inlet flange? You have the collector in place but its 90 degrees removed from the turbo... _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

On the moment i have somting like this.
(Klik to enlarge)
But it is near to inposible to make this design out of bended tubing (to smal radius).
This mocup turbo is also not 100% real size. I have contacted garrett iff they have a 3D model of thear GTX3076R.
I'm also not sure ware to place the turbo. I think i can ga somwhat more to the frond. so i have more space for the collector to turbo pipe. |

As you have not yet purchased the turbo,
consider looking at Comp turbos oil-less unit. (I have one for my car).
Or if you really want to go ape$h*t you could look up aerocharger. it is a very nicely designed oil-less turbo with variable vain technology, so no need for a wastegate.
I really like the design to the aerocharger, but have seen reports they arent good at high (20+PSI) boost levels.
The Comp turbo is around $1600 for the unit I got, but its a big puppy to feed a 5L motor. The aerocharger would be $2500. _________________ 3 928s, |

With VGT/VNT wastegate is still needed for gasoline engines. I have some experience with Holset HE351VE (basically HX40 with VGT turbine) and on 2.2liter Honda engine boost would creep uncontrollably even when VGT housing was opened to the max. And this is variable between 8-32 cm2.
I bought HE341VE (HX35 with VGT) for my white 924 (2.5 liter 16v engine), full boost (~1.2 bar) is expected around 1900-2000 rpm.
Besides, Holsets can be had for a fraction of a cost of new GTX series or aerocharger. And Holset compressors are top of the line compared to even new designs from Garret etc. My 341 has aroun 79% efficiency at planned boost and thet island is large on the map. Of course billet comp wheels, anti-surge housings etc. Best thing: I got it for 350 euros. It will be controlled by VEMS ecu. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Just my take, as I have a similar manifold...
I think you have the motor too high up in the engine bay and your manifold design will interfere with the frame rail, plus your oil drain will be pretty low at that turbo height. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Long time no update... will explain.
Do to circumstances i had to drop out of school...and had to buy a care to get to my work (when a was at school i workt at home...).
So i bod myself a Porsche 944 for lo money whit some "light" work to it...i thought...
After 2 weeks of stoping leeks and fixing electrics... everything seemed to be ok...till i blown the engine .
Thad was an expensive fix even whit all the discounts and support i had got...
Well after 2 months this was the resold...an almost new engine.
can drool on what else broke that costed me the big bux on thad 944...bur we are on the 924 board
On the moment i am speeding up the making of the intake of my 924 project...2 reasons:
1. I'm getting sick of the "design" fase of the project...
2. The injection system of my girls 924 is getting old...so i'm gonna make 2 intakes in the same time, one for her 924...en one for my project.
And i may by dropt out of school, but i have still more than close contacts whit my CNC teacher. And so i can still use the CNC machine .
Small render of the setup for the CNC
Fore all the above comments, You have all made your point. But i'm still going for the Garret GT series turbo.
As for the room for the turbo. I revised that issue and i think my exhaust mannifold is ready for production to .
Hope to update more soon! |
