If the crank won't turn, it's time to pull the motor. You may get them unstuck using any method, but it's too late as damage has been done to the bearings themselves most likely. _________________ '80 924 Turbo - SOLD!

ive seen engines get unstuck by pouring transmission fluid into the oil fill, letting it sit a day or two, then rocking the crank back and fourth until it spins again. obviously you would want to flush the engine before starting, and i have no idea if this will damage anything else, proceed at your own risk... _________________ Eric

if it's stuck, then something is broken.
the cylinders have major rust, or the bearings are seized. Either way, don't expect the engine to be like 'new' when you loosen it up.... some parts are still f'ed.
it depends on what your intentions are... if you just want it to run, loosen it up. if it has to be good and reliable, i'd at least pull the head. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

Germ 4 u. How hard would it be to pop the head off and oil pan
and just loosen the crossmember and let it hang down ebough,
then investigate for a damage report by pulling some bearing caps.
Maybe you couls start on the bottem and work up to the head.
youll only be checking bearing cap ends and you should be able
to see up into the cyl. wall with a small light. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

sorry this is just silly...what do they make cars from in/for USA? crap?
did the car go underwater? did somebody pour water into the cyls? did someone run the car without coolant and/or oil until it jammed the engine?
if the car ran when you left it....it should run now...even if it sat outside...one year is not that much for a car to sit.
my car sits 6 months every year and starts at 1/4 turn of a key.
take the plugs out....put it in neutral...take a 24mm wrench and turn the engine by hand using the crank. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

BTW, WD-40 does very little for rust issues. It just displaces water (helping to prevent rust from forming, but does not break it up at all) Use PB-blaster or the like.
I think at this point, it is time to pull the head at least. Assuming that pulling the plugs and putting a ratchet and socket on the crank bolt doesn't net anything but swearing. _________________ Stefan

i think I know what happened,
last winter we had it real bad here, I think since there was just water and not antifreeze, the block froze and it cracked, i found rust on the 4th cyclinder plug. this is all I can think of.
it turned over perfectly 1 year and 1/2 ago when I changed the starter. |
