Let's say we have a turbocharged engine. let it be 924 engine with GT30 turbo and you want to spool it up quickly.
Yesterday I realized that there are some relations between turbo, turbine and a gas turbine engine.
The usage of a gas turbine engine for a car is not new but it's a completely different concept. So I thought why not to burn some fuel before the turbo to get some more boost while engine rpm is low and to make some vacuum in the exhaust.
After few hours of googling I've found that some enthusiasts make Jet engines out of car turbo.
Here is how it works:
and the Link
The stupid Idea is to connect this engine's jet nozzle right before the turbine inlet. to make some pressure to our turbo. And when you get enough rpm (exhaust flow) switch it to aprox 100mm behind turbine discharge to create vacuum on discharge and exhaust.
this is effective enough to spin the turbo. Proof:
Here is the how-to: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-your-own-Jet-Engine/
This will work, but is it worth it?
Well, there is a better option you'll find it if you google " KJ 66 RC TURBINE JET"
Personally I believe such approach may work well if technology involved. But making this in a garage is a stupid idea.

You'll need some NASA level materials to keep your impellor from going molten. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Link the engine exhaust into the combustion chamber of your gas turbine.
That way there will be a degree of self starting on the gas turbine.
I assume you are drag racing, as the gas turbines made from turbo's are FECKING loud and also won't run at low power, they are pretty much flat out or nothing. So you will have loads of boost - all the time.... even at idle!
Will be 'exciting' shall we say. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

look for Audi old rally car turbine design...they used this stuff in the 70's IIRC. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

hmmm cannot find it. do you know any specific technology name or something? |

i have found the exhaust temp of that kind of engine is 800-850 C. which I think is acceptable for turbine. |

Morghen,
This is what Audi did:

Modern WRC cars use a less complicated anti-lag system and faster spooling turbochargers. _________________ Stefan

On the same lines trying to avoid lag I had an idea years ago...was never sure if it might work or not , think some manufacturers have experimented along these lines since...............
My idea was to use an oil jet from an accumulator to spin up a turbo at low rpm's. It would require a central turbine to be impacted by the oil stream spinning it. I dont suppose it would ever be enough to spin it from a standstill but thats not the idea. The aim is just to keep the thing spinning for those moments that cause lag.
I know an accumulator would need recharging, if it was not enough I suppose a high pressure pump, perhaps electrical version might do....just a thought!
cheers

I guess the oil turbine will be a restriction on high rpm |

Use your boost on downshifts to charge an accumulator and dump it into the exhaust on snap throttle opens. Trouble is this charge air will be relatively cold (~60) when compared to the exhaust (~500) _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...
