Landy is at my parents it's an original 1953 80" Series one restored by my dad in 1980's with a canvas tilt in Brunswick green (Of course!)
Sadly while it's great fun to borrow (it's a family heirloom!) it is absolutely horrible to drive anywhere.
Drove my brother to his wedding in it + my dad + ushers (8 of us in a 80") and that was the furthest it's been for years about 20 miles. (My dad had a stroke a few years ago so can't drive anymore  )
Ideally we'd sell it and get my mum a Frogeye sprite as she loves them but Frogeyes are even more stupid money!

Is that yours? The Europa is a lovely car but sadly the definition of agile-but-fragile.
Also a decent one will be as much as an Esprit!

Don't have the power? 260 bhp and 0-60 in 4.9? Sorry but I don't know what you expect for £10k but that is 'sufficient' in my book

A buddy of mine was looking at one of these, but was ultimately dissauded after doing internet research on their various problems, some fixable, and some NOT.
As with any purchase like this, you MUST have a PPI done by someone with a high degree of familiarity with these specific cars.

Oh yes - needs a good going over by someone in-the-know for sure. 
Not scared by a bit of required work, but need a basically sound car to start, with out any hidden nasties!

There were 3 things I cared about in 1987. Girls, U2 and the Lotus Esprit Turbo. It defines 80s performance... screw muscle cars, a strung out Turbo I4 could kick some V8 ass.

Considering they were very similar cars underneath, it isn't surprising, eh?
John Z wanted a rear engined, stainless steel bodied "sports" car.
Colin Chapman wanted a mid engined, fiberglass bodied sportscar.
John Z "won" but Colin built a fiberglass bodied car with a stainless steel skin and secretly probably cursed John Z. Delorean and made sure Colin Chapman or Lotus were named as being involved with the car.

if anyone was suited to keeping a Lotus going it is you....and it has to be a Turbo
or a TVR 350 something! same wedge, sounds fab, always breaking down

Skiers notriously fall off over 130 mph.
You need to strap them on better
As for wheeler dealers - not very impressed with those 2 monkeys - I know it's 'entertainment' but advising people to thrash cars on test drives is not going to endear you to the seller, also putting exhaust manifolds on with bolts stright into the head isn't the best idea, nor is ignoring the huge pall of blue smoke following it everywhere...
But that siad nothing he did semed particually hard to do, couple of stuck bolts and fiddly access.

Might have found a swap...
My Elise for an S4 1994 Esprit. Sadly it's been standing for 2 years...
However 260 bhp (280 on overboost!) and 260 ft lbs and 4.5 0-60....
Got to call the guy tomorrow and work out if there is a deal to be had...

Tell me about it. I used to drive a 1956 88" S1, drums all round, vague steering relay, had to shout at my passengers cos it was so noisy, had to curl up to reach the handbrake on the floor, and... couldn't see a thing when it rained.
Mine had a Smiths Heater that was as much use as a chocolate fire guard. They are very testing to drive.

Heater? The ehight of luxury! We have wipers and erm, headlamps, but that's the limit of the features
It's great off road though!

As of tomorrow at 9 am with luck I'll be the owner of a Esprit S4...
Swapped it for my MOT'd Elise and a bit of cash.
Known problems:
It has no MOT
It needs at least one headlamp (Got)
It needs a headlamp motor (Up to £100)
It needs a new cambelt as it's 6 months overdue (Belts x4 are best part of £100)
It needs a full service (£100 of fluids, £70 of which is engine oil! 6.5 litres of the stuff!)
I have to get up at 5 am to go get it...
God idea? Possibly not, but hey ho, SWMBO thinks I'm mental...
At least the insurance is cheap... £250 pa, where the Elise is nearer £600... Even though the Esprit (If working properly) has over twice the power and is faster in ALL respects...
