I was going through some old stuff and found this info. I think it was from one of the guys at Crower. This was sometime in the early 80's when I was looking for a cam. The duration is in degrees. The early cam is slightly hotter.

Early 76-77.5 Late 77.5 and newer
Intake Exhaust Intake Exhaust
lift .470" .462" .408" .415"
dur. @ .020" 243 251 241 262
dur. @ .050" 222 222 215 222

I have another question. Is the American Motors cam the same as one of the above? I have a '24 head complete that includes an American Motors sheet metal valve cover.

I don't know the answer, but I personally would find it highly unlikely since it was a different head and was carbed, not fuel injection.

Thanks

Maybe I can make a quick rig at some point to measure it out. Oh I need cooler tools

I believe that the Postal Jeep used the early cam.

Here are a couple of pictures.

I have a couple of more somewhere but can't find them right now.

I didn't get the email that you replied to this, sorry.

Funny thing is I can do it but now I will have to reveal project #12873. This involved destroying the valve cover somewhat.

I have been smoothing it out to make a mold for a carbon fiber valve cover. This started rather crudely by hammering down the American Motors lettering since I didn't care about it so much. I wanted to get started! Of course I probably should have left it alone and used it since its lighter than the 4 or 5 other aluminum covers I have. For whatever reason I didn't want to mess them up. They would have been a better choice though given there shape and the quantity.

The reason I haven't posted up the project is that I would like to be farther along or done. I tend to get swept up with daily life that I don't get the chance to finish some of my projects. That is also the reason the front end lightening hasn't been posted yet on the NA and that is much farther along but stalled the last few weeks.

Thanks v8carreragts for the pics! I will post one of the butchered cover I have once I take a pic.

Sorry so late on this...

Head

My butchered valve cover

I welded the oil fill shut since I need everything smoothed out. Bondo and paint next before preparing for the mold making process. I will also knock off the bottom folded up edge which originally strengthened the gasket lip. If it turns out reasonable I will do it with a cleaned up aluminum cover.
