| I've never realized until I got my 924 w/ a newer stereo, just how much of a difference a radio's look changes the whole appearance of the interior. Mine is an 82 and came with some newer style dvd player. I ripped that out and installed an awesome, peroid correct, Harmon/Kardon cassette player! Looks factory, has a ton of power and the best thing, it has RCA connectors in the back so I can use my iPod, now its totally usefull! |

Here is a source for period-correct stereo components:
http://www.swstereo.com/
And a related thread on Rennlist.
In SONIC, I have a Blaupunkt Tampa Bay unit.
I just installed a Pioneer DEH-P4100UB in the 941.
Here's the full kit & kaboodle that went into SONIC.

I have this one, and I love it. No CD player, just 1/8" input and SD card.

Period correct (my own vintage unit that I bought in 1984 when I was 12) Alpine 7390 deck from going in with aux/changer input adapter for Ipod. It's actually got track controls/etc. from what it says. Haven't tested it yet. I remember I detasseled an entire summer to buy that son of a gun...
Looks like this one:

I Currently have a Sony Xplod CDX-GT400 installed... i bought it 4 years ago for my BMW and fits perfectly in the 924... especially since all my gauges are now amber.
The best radio in my oppinion for a 924 would be this:
Its a blaupunkt MP46 Bahama. Its an old unit, but it resembles the Becker units used on the newer 911, you can change the display color to virtually match any interior and sounds amazing. Its not too flashy and is packed with a shit load of features.
And ofcourse, the king of all decks would be this:
If you dont care about looks (and $$$) and want the best in sound quality... this is the deck to get _________________ 1977 Porsche 924

period radio cassette players look best!
You can keep anything made after 1990, It just looks tacky.
No need for an "AUX-in" either, just use one of these,
SD Card to Compact Cassette Adapter to pump mp3 files direct onto the tape heads of your tape player
It is an mp3 player shaped like a cassette.
You drag'n'drop your music onto a SD card, put the SD Card in the "Cassette" shaped mp3 player
and put it all in your tape player like you would any ordinary cassette. When the spools rotate, it turns itself on and plays you mp3 files.
It will also work as a standalone mp3 player with headphones.
Leave it in the car and not worry about theft as it looks too dated to warent stealing. I love them, I use them with my collection of 70/80s ghetto blasters too

@9XX Girl!
Yeah, but the sound quality is for crap because you're limited to the frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio of the cassette heads. Which are for crap. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
