The starter is still turning over even after the keys are removed! what could be causing this, also the battery was being drawn so much that it drained in about a minute! and started to smole from the negative terminal lead, the leads on both ends were REALLY hot.

starter solenoid could be jammed or ign switch is stuffed. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

on the starter- you have to remove it and clean it
If you disconnect the ign switch and it still keeps going then its the starter. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Why would this be considered a performance upgrade? |

well it would GREATLY help the performance of the car if it was running and i know the spark would be better from the battery if it wasnt flat therby also aiding performance.
sorry for being facecious, i didnt know where else to list this, its not body or wheels and not general discusion so.... ok cheers for that lads, i have a new starter, my old man is coming sunday to give me a hand with it so ill let you know how that goes.
is removing the ignition an easy job? could i seperate the ignition quickly and easily while it is turning over by itself to see if i can eliminate that?
cheers lads |

General discussion is the appropriate forum for this type of question and will usually result in more suitable replies.

Reaching behind the dash and pulling the black plug on the ignition switch will isolate it for testing purposes. |
