I just bought a 78' 924 from a import repair shop for VERY cheap, anyways, they lost the ignition key and I have no way to unlock the steering and of course try and start the car, I still have my 924 manual from my previous cars and could not find anything about this. Does anyone know of a 'trick' to unlock the steering or does the ignition have to be pulled out and taken to a key shop? It's a very tight squeeze for me getting underneath the steering column, I pulled off the wiring harness but can not see a way to take out the ignition, can anyone help me out please?

Pull the steering wheel then pull the ignition key module. Grind off the protruding tab which locks the wheel. Then 'hotwire' the ingnition key functions as you like.
Recently did this to an 83 944 so we could roll it around(same system). Took about 15 minutes. |

i'm about there, pulled off steering and turn signals, unplugged all wires, took out the 6mm bolt but the ignition still wont come out, it must be in there real good, i'm going to try and punch it from behind maybe that will force it out, hopefully the plastic won't break.

There should be a black plastic sleeve on the steering column. This needs to be pryed out before the lock holder comes out.

thanks I wouldn't of been able to figure that little plastic sleeve had to come off, after that the entire ignition switch pulled right out
