Hi everyone,
I'm interested in doing some autocross but i'm pretty new to this and don't really have a clue to what the pro's/con's of joining either org's to compete would be. It sounds like i would get more seat time with PCA and be able to do the DE thing, but i'm also drawn to the competitiveness of a summer campaign in the local SCCA solo group. I will be driving an 87 924s, it would be running e-stock.
Do you guys have any thoughts on this? _________________ 1987 924s |

Do you care about contact? If so, SCCA may not be for you... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

He's talking about autocross, not club racing (no concerns about car contact there, Arominus).
As for which... PCA autox's I've been to have been quite casual affairs, whereas the SCCA Solo scene, such as I've heard, is pretty competitive, not extremely welcoming, and can be quite cutthroat in some areas. But, like the Club Racing side of things - the competition is definitely much stiffer there, that's where the best drivers are.
All depends on what you're looking to get out of it. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Vaughan is right. Try them both and find out which group you enjoy the most. Look into the local SCCA and PCA clubs (search for their websites) and see which of their AutoX schedules is most convenient. Join up, go, ask questions, be observant, ask questions, have fun.
Then look into their Performance Driving Experience (SCCA's PDX program) or Driver's Education (PCA's DE program) as the next step beyond AutoX.
AutoX - wait in line 30 minutes; run for 1 minute
PDX/DE - wait in line 5 minutes; run 30 minutes
Add one more zero to each check and you can go racing!
Have Fun,
Chuck |
