I have not one, but TWO sets of these black plastic centercaps with the Porsche emblem for my 8 spoke 924 1980 rims. Painting these silver lasts only so long. How is it that black plastic centers can be my only option? I have TEN of these rims, dammit.
I called up Performance Products and get little help. The caps that I see in the catalog look like they might fit (Fuchs style) and I understand that those are 70 mm. There must be a way to put some chrome/electroplated (or enameled) centers on these rims even if I have to adapt these and I am good at that.
Anyone?

Charlane, I have a set of those 8 spoke rims and they are not factory items. I understand that you don't like the center caps but those wheels are hard to find. They have the proper offset, bolt pattern AND they have that deep dish look. Nice.
Most all the factory rims for the 924 are flat faced and skinny. Those 8 spokes take 225 series tires which are nice and wide and don't rub the suspension or body. They should be 14" in diameter and are the closest things to Fuchs ever made for our cars.
Keep a set for yourself or send them to me if you don't want them. I'll pay postage!

What are you talking about? You're saying the standard 8-spoke 4-bolt wheel was not factory? Please clarify which wheel you're talking about.

The wheels I'm talking about are on this website
http://members.rennlist.com/924martinirossi/
Michael and I were putting this silver car together for competition but we've decided to autocross my 924 instead. Those Fuch-like wheels are on my black 924 now and are lighter than the alloys I had on it before. Unsprung weight decreased by 10 lbs.
Hopefully Charlane can confirm if these are the wheels that she has. Vaughn, I know the other factory alloy wheels you are talking about, but I wasn't sure if they were 8 spoke or not.

Yeah, the very common factory alloys (more common than the base steel rims) were 8-spoke, and are generally what we're referring to. Interestingly enough, they use the same black plastic center caps as shown on your Fuchs-analogs. The factory 8-spoke is 14x6", I guess yours are 14x7".
Still no good ideas for replacement center caps, though.

| Deep dish look maybe but dont you think there ugly? i have the "phone dial" wheels or the alloys with five oval holes which ever one you perfer and i love them. Why because at a stop light evry one knows what your diving. With those wheels its hard to confuse our 924's with preludes, RX7, 240SX, or 300ZX or any other car that stole this design from Porsche. |

the offset isnt that big of a deal what its just the amount of space that your tires is from rubbing.. Anyway if you want to see what other rims you can get heres some they
are offered in 14"15" 16 " rims you can get set up with a set of 15 or 16" low profilers for 700.00 |

If the offset on the front wheels is wrong the wheel and tire will rub on the strut springs. I have a pair of aftermarket Ultra wheels (see projects page, black 924, under 'convertible 924')The 924 offset is not available so they had to use spacers on the front wheels. The fronts wouldn't spin when they bolted them up without spacers.
I like the 8 spoke Fuch knock offs and they are kind of rare. I personally don't like 'phone dials' though a friend of mine has a set on his 63 VW crew cab which look tight. Porsche wheels, engines and accessories on old VW's is a current German trend thats catching on in the U.S.
I like the deep dish look and its safer to roll with wheels that don't have adapters or spacers.

| I figure it's better to ditch the wheels than try to find caps since they are so ugly and cut down the 924 a lot. Make sure the tabs aren't broken if you find some, they should have four tabs. |
