Neat, they will sell well if they keep them under $25,000. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Didnt like the 914. I think its ugly by comparison to the 924.
The new car looks good though, vast improvement. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

I just wish they wouldn't neuter it like they do with everything else that isn't a 911. _________________ Stefan

WOW! Having been a former 914-4 owner, i have mixed reactions! Looks wise( this is another instance that i believe "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"...i guess...) it looks more porsche than vw. The original 914 was sometimes mistakenly thought to be a modern replacement for the kharmann ghia, so it looked more vw than porsche. Back then(middle 80`s) i thought the 924 looked conventional(hatchback conventional, like a jensen healey or something) as compared to the 914 which looked unlike any other car i`d ever seen, maybe in the same breath as the citroens. Initially i didnt like the front of the 914`s too much since from a distance with the headlights down and the parking lights on it looked like the rear of some mgb or something(btw i do like the mgb`s rear but not at the front). The artist`s rendition of the new 914 has removed this look and looks very porsche. The slabsidedness of the old 914 is still there. I guess the biggest change i see looks wise is incorporating the parking/signal light with the headlight. The new 914 now looks more conventional. The old 914 of course eventually grew on me. Not as practical or as fast as a 924, but after you watch steve mcqueen`s movie Le Mans and see the 914-6GT it can grow on you really fast! But then like most retro cars, i suppose its hard to beat the nostalgia of the original 914. But in fairness to the possibilities of a new 914, technology will of course make it a better performer. I personally prefer the UNIQUE look of the old 914-4 or 914-6 as compared to the artists rendition of the new one.Must be coz i`m 45 yrs old. I would love to have a new one though. _________________ 1979 924 U.S. version

ah well..it has the same effect on me as the old 914.
i see it... i go then i go: WTF ?! then i scratch my head....then i think...what a weird thing to make....then i dream of the ethernal weekend when i can drive my 924 on superb windy roads that flow trough incredibly beautifull nature sceenaries.
nah really...i respect the 914 for its performance and strangeness...but its weird and if i ever owned one i'd just keep it...i feel i could not make friends with it as i did with the 924. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I think it looks an awful lot like the Toyota MR2:

Thats what i mean about the old 914`s unique(yes sometimes weird) look. All the cars mentioned(MR2, boxster, S2000 and dont forget the Honda Delsol) all took visual elements from the old 914, and not the other way around. Interestingly, George Hussey from Automobile Atlanta use to sell a body kit for the 914 back in the 80`s that pretty much gave it a much more updated and "acceptable" look. Of course i still like all the other cars mentioned as well. _________________ 1979 924 U.S. version

I like the look and all - mid engine is cool.
I think I read that they'd use the same 6 that's in the other cars - Boxster and the like. So I don't get where this would really be something 'new' in the lineup...
I'd like to see them use a powerful, efficient turbo 4 cylinder - if Subaru can do it, so can Porsche - it might bring the price down (?). _________________ 1980 924 turbo, MSD, Meth. Inj, otherwise stock. |

Agreed, looks like an MR2.
I'd consider buying it if they call it a 914.
Not so much if they call it a Gecko, Paprika, or some other lame name. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |
