Just thought I would post my results for the search for a suitable gear oil for my snailshell tranny. Happy to say that everything turned out better than I expected After reading the replies to my ogrinal post in Feb thanks to every one for ther input!! & alot of reseach & talking to a couple of independent Porsche shops I deceided to go with Redline 75-90W NS. Shifts so much smoother alot less resitstance even the down shift to first is now inproved , before I couls not get it to go into first gear downshift with out grinding the gears without coming to a complete stop., ( the snail shell is known for a bad problem of first & second gear problems) now I can downshifht to first up 15MPH much nicer. At $10.00 a quart I feel that this is real bargain compared to the price of going thru the tranny. If you are thinking about changing your gear oil couple of things I would like to pass on make sure you warm up the gear box first tmake sure the oil drains out better then take brake wash& flush the trannny to remove any left over debris inside ,turn one of the wheels while you are doing this to work the brake wash to clean out between any rotating parts dry out with compressed air & antiseize the drain & fill plugs before reinstalling 3 quarts should do it & you should be good to go

Yep, I put Royal Pee in mine, and it made a huge difference.
I have one question, though. . .how often do you need to downshift into 1st gear at 15 MPH?? This is something I have never done. _________________ Toofah King Bad
