It didn't occur to me and that phrase really rubbed me the wrong way, how about a little tact?

I mistook what was being posted, and thought it was content that was already freely downloadable from other sources and therefore in the public domain.

Me too. It's one thing to bring that to our attention but to yell

"Hey dummies, #### off!"

is quite another.

It's the Admins' board, the Admins' can act and behave as they see fit.

I also didn't really think about it. I've always thought about scanning a pdf version of mine so I can just have it on screen in the garage since I've got an old laptop out there now. No harm intended on my part, just wasn't thinking.

Yeah, "not thinking", a reminder is all that was needed. Who's the Admin anyway and how many times was he beat up as a kid to acquire this kind of attitude?

Porsche loves to sue folks, if they sued this board's owner, you think we would miss it when it was shut down?

The myth is much larger than the fact.

Also my point wasn't to allow anything illegal. It was the delivery of the message. Perhaps it's just me but the remark pissed me off.

1st part ....the myth not when it comes to Porsche, dont F with them as they can shut it down pretty dang fast. I'm a local region member in PCA and we had the cease and change our logo or else letter, sent it to PCA national and was told sorry guys there is no walking away with any other outcome than to comply.

As for the message, I cant say as I don't know when and why it happened. please clue me in. Know one needs to feel like this is forum is run by a bunch of pricks.

I can say if there is any question on copyright whether is it ok or not to , assume not. I work with copyright in my job and there is some leeway in the Millenium Copyright Act, but not much. As for free domain, unless the copyright owner spells it out there is no such thing. Public domain doesn't mean it is without copyright, just means the posters haven't been sued, yet....much of what is out there for is under copyright and even though it may be found a dozen places, doesn't mean it falls immediately under public domain.

If there are any questions please feel free to send me an email. Any other comments or gripes, feel free.

Get over it.

As I told Wombat
Quote:
As I see it unless the author specifically places the document in the public domain and does so in writing then it's copyright.

The discussion board is associated with a Porsche-sanctioned site (924.org) and the last thing I want is a take-down notice from Porsche's legal department.

The only people who have a right to complain about the arbitrary rules that I apply to the site that I pay for and spend time administering and keeping clean are those who have paid real money for that privilege. So unless you've got a receipt...

Peter, no offense taken...I think it was an honest mistake by all involved. One need look no further than the Napster debacle to see how website operators can be held responsible for the action of site visitors. I certainly understand the sensitivity to being held accountable for the actions of others, so in retrospect I can't say that I have any problem with the swift, decisive and curt response.

I for one am immensely thankful for the time, effort, and resources you have invested into this tremendously valuable site...the fact that it is free, in many respects, is a pretty amazing thing. It certainly was not my intent to jeopardize the site...I'll be more judicious in the future.

Should come as no surprise that I side with the admin, of course.

While the message may have been blunt - it's nowhere near as blunt as Porsche's attitude to this stuff. BTDT. Wouldn't be the first time we got taken to task by Porsche. Yes, I do mean we, the 924 community. We are most definitely NOT off their radar!!! Just because they don't intend to bring out a new 924 model (well, maybe not) doesn't mean they don't protect ALL of their old trademarks. Including the silhouettes.
