Bought a very tidy 1983 924 N/A three weeks ago. I have taken it to a Porsche Specialist for a look over and they have given it a clean bill of health, but there are still a couple of nagging things I need re-assurance on.
Is the shudder when I switch off the engine normal?
Are all 924 miserable when cold? Takes a good 5 minutes before it sounds happy and revs properly.
I think the problem is that I am used to newer cars without these little quirks.
Apart from that I absolutely love the car, what gives you such great handling and such good looks and SO well built for so little cash?

No. A tune might help.

No. What is cold to you and what are you comparing it to? Even new cars have trouble getting out of bed, it's just that the engine management disguises the fact. A tune might help.
The major problem with cars that don't have these little quirks is that there's a billion of them out there and they all look the same. I don't think anyone will give an admiring glance to any of those "newer" cars in 20 years.

Yes, welcome!
As mentioned, the car should be fine to run from the get-go. Check out the FAQ for cold-start issues. Very likely it's either fuel control pressure (control pressure regulator) or throttle air bypass (aux air valve). Before rushing to replace them, make sure they're getting power. It's covered in the FAQ.

Thank you for your kind welcoming! I have only seen 2 924’s on the road since I have owned mine and they have given me a beep and a wave. I have been a car nut all my life and was looking something a bit different but being 22 never thought I could afford a Porsche, but I this one came up and I did the maths and found I could………………….just.
Answer to your questions.
“Cold” is not being used for 24 hours, in England, in July.
The shudder does seem to come from the back of the car, I was told this was the Transmission and it was normal.
Also, how much should a tune cost (£) and what is involved?

what part of England?
I have a whole heap of part URLS and a few garages too (around London).
Mine shudders at the engine of shutdown, but its going to Mactech for a look see. I will tell you what I think of them, but they seem pretty good.

get a friend to help you try and identify where the shuddering is coming from.
Could be a broken engine mount, the exhaust or perhaps even a bad bearing in the torque tube (unlikely a bearing would cause that).
Does the engine shut down cleanly or is it running on / dieseling? |

I am in Bristol.
The shuddering does seem to come from the back of the car.
It usually shuts down straight away but a couple of times it has run on for a second or two.
Please let me know what your garage says about yours.
