Sorry to hear, that sucks, it was a nice clean example. Nightmare situation for any of us who love our cars. Looks like it did its job and protected the owner in its final moments. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

condolences...
but, once you establish if you will be able to repair it or not, i *might* have a fender and 931 hood for you, and front bumper if needed. i dont know how you would get them from fl, but it may be an option. _________________ Eric

Umm...hehehe...you read my mind
One way or another...whether I help Jeremy reincarnate it into a killer CGT replica, or piece by piece, that car will be back on the road if I have anything to do with it _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Well, if you're that hard up for a shell, why not use the shell of the NA Chris and I are parting out in Plymouth?
Oh, OTOH, the rear suspension would be the early hard-mount style... not so nice.
But seriously, if you wanted to cut and splice on a new front clip... bring a sawzall!
Still up to you and how much work you want to do... may just be easier to start with another car...
PS - I will be replacing the entire front clip of my street car with GTR stuff at some point here... so all of that sheetmetal potentially becomes available too. There's definitely enough stock 931 sheetmetal locally to do whatever you want. _________________ Vaughan Scott

It is a shame cause everything on this car was literally perfect and about 90% of the mechanicals still are. I even have all of the service records to go with it. Can you swap 931 parts over to a 924? What are the significant differences body wise and frame wise? I know that 944s differed from 951s quite a bit. Are these cars the same way? Maybe I could get a cheap shell and swap everything over... might be a challenge. _________________ 1986 Porsche 944 |

Just because it is a "write off" doesn't mean it can't be fixed. I worked at 1 shop for 5 years where all we did was MAJOR insurance write-offs on toyotas only. We bought them from the insurance companies..repaired them and sold them. All the titles have Salvage Repair written on them. For that matter my yellow car has that exact title.
You can repair that car. Will the insurance pay to have it done....very unlikely
I wouldn't think about fixing that. That would be what we called a light hit. MAJOR hit are when you are replacing a frame rail..strut towers and the like. _________________ 1976 924

Take a close look at the tops and bottoms of the pillars for tiny cracks (may be a couple inches long, but tiny-thin). ..Wondering if this is something that commonly happens with the 924 - I found one at the top of the right-rear (C) pillar and the bottom of the right B pillar. -But my car was hit in the rear in a previous life, so it may be more likely to occur when hit from the rear..?

Also, replacing the roof may even be a desirable repair route... _________________ Vaughan Scott

if you want to repair that...you will need some powerfull hidraulic pumps. a good body should be able to fix that. i dont think that you should jump to conclusions and waste a good body before getting a few opinions from good and expensive shops.
Get the car to a good shop and have them measure the chasis and wheels. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

A lot of it is going to depend on what your insurance company does for you.
If it were me I'd take the cash, keep the car for parts and buy another. But if it were my car I'd be slow to warm up to that idea.
Do you really like THIS 924 turbo or is there another color or 931 that will make you happy? _________________ 1980 924 turbo, MSD, Meth. Inj, otherwise stock. |

Yep Tuurbo is right it depends a great deal on what the insurance company is going to do. I should have an adjuster coming out soon to inspect the damages. I loved this car, I searched for a long time to find a 931 in the kind of shape this was in. Unfortunately to fix this car would be a lot of money and I may be doing exactly as suggested and buying another and keeping this for parts. We'll see though. _________________ 1986 Porsche 944 |
