ok so i finally got some free time when it wasn't raining and was able to check to see if my fuel distributor is bad. i followed the instructions that gohim gave me and they worked very well. i pulled all the injectors and pulled down the air flow thing through the air filter opening and all the injectors had a nice cone shaped spray pattern to them so i think they as well as the fuel distributor are good. now that i have that figured out i'm stumped as to what my problem is. here are all the new fuel system parts i have put in trying to find and fix my problem...
injectors
cold start valve
fuel lines
warm up regulator
fuel filter
accumulators
fuel pump
but i still have problems starting it warm or starting in general and now it hesitates when i step on the pedal like the fuel to air ratio is way lean and the fuel has to catch up and then i go (for those of you who have owned a chevy with a carb my problem is like when the accelerator pump is bad in the carb). anyone have any ideas?
i'm almost done once i figure these 2 things out, i'll be finished after 4 years of work started working on it when i was 16 and here i am 20 now. i would like to enjoy the car after so long, i sold my 68 chevelle to keep this car and i would at least like to drive it down the road you know?
thanks for your help you guys are great

Did you check the valve clearances?
Did you check the auxilary air regulator? It is mounted on the top of the intake manifold, and it lets additonal air into the intake manifold when the engine is cold to speed up the idle when combined with the additonal fuel allowed by the warmup regulator.
It should be open when the engine is cold, and close in less than five minutes, or after the engine is warm. It is a bimetallic (works on heat to move a mechanical shutter), but also has an electric heater. You can pull it out and check it cold, then warm the engine up, and check it hot.
If the valve has failed open, then the mixture would too lean to allow easy starts when the engine is warm.
You could also have the timing belt, mis-timed, or the distributor mis-adjusted, and/or the idle speed and mixture too lean, and/or too low. Good starting positions for the idle speed control on the throttle body would be turned fully clockwise (closed), then rotated counter clockwise (open) 1.5 turns. The Idle Mixture adjustment on the Air Flow Sensor should adjusted to teh point where the Air Sensor Plate is closed (lowered), (counter clockwise) then opened 1.5 turns (clockwise).
Adjustment should only be made when the engine is warm, so you know how the engine will be running after all of the adjustments are set. Don;t try adjusting everything with the engine cold.

Steve: I'm a firm believer in replacing the two rubber boots from the fuel distributor to the intake. If they are the original ones, they've taken quite a bit of heat and wear over the years, especially when they've been removed and reinstalled a number of times. Your symtoms sound alot like mine before I had them replaced. They're only about 35.00ea and eliminates one of the easiest places for vaccum leaks to really affect the fuel mixture. Just my experience.

thanks for reminding me i also replaced them just the other week i just can't seem to win
as to the timing it should be right on i timed it just 3 weeks ago and have drove it much since. i took off and sealed the hole for the auxilary air regulator when i put headers on the car. the headers didn't have a hole for it to screw on to. i still have to adjust the 2 screws for the idle and mixture but i'm sure they are pretty close but i'll double check.
i'll get back to you

You took off the aux air regulator and haven't adjusted the idle and mixture, but you are wondering why you're having problems starting the car?
Take a look at my sig.
