|
|
hi,
i sold a 944 gearbox to a guy who was was having major problems shifting gears and was also occasionally getting stuck in paticular gears ect... he managed to drive his 944 to my place to collect and pay for the box, we got talking and i agreed to fit the replacement box or him (for a modest fee ).
the first thing i did was to drain the oil. it was very dirty but no swarf! i then asked him about his clutch and he told me he had just spent over £500 having it replaced (ouch ).
next i looked at the linkage...the sloppiest most worn that i have ever seen!!! i suggested to him that maybe this was the reason or his shifting woes but he insisted that i replace the tranny to be on the safe side.
anyway, 4 hours later we went for a testdrive (via the ATM ) and he was over the moon with the replacement box/linkage that i fitted for him...even his electronic speedo was now working lol.
we shook hands and i suggested that i find an old sheet to wrap his original tranny up in to protect his boot carpet... he said forget about it, and just keep the box for spares... thanks i said
well i got around to testing that box and guess what? ... it's L.S.D equipped, but unfortunatly it has syncro wear and it is impossible to engage 2nd gear unless moving up from 1st or whilst stationary.
this leads me to my question, how involved is it to remove the L.S.D? i'm not really interested in fixing the gerarbox itself, if anything i will be getting the lsd unit fitted to a 951 box or a 944S (180bhp) box. who knows, i might even sell it.......i just want it out!!! anyone here know whats involved? |

Sounds like you need a 944 shop manual. _________________ Toofah King Bad

its not hard.
pull out the driveshaft flange bolts and take off the side cover.
the whole unit will then lift out. The lsd is bolted into place.
If you wanted to sell it Imight be interested for the sprint car, do you have a price in mind?
cheers

Didn't the 3 speed audi auto box have an LSD as standard?
Would that fit? Auto boxes are cheap.... _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...
